Lemon or not

As a MDT for Toyota, and team leader I can tell you Hybrids are VERY simple. VERY VERY Simple actually. There is a safety issue working with them, but the actual workings of an HV system in a Toyota/Lexus is stupidly simple.

Ask 'em to squeeze your car, add some sugar and put it in a tall glass with a straw in it. I'd drive the damn thing right through the showroom window.

I was pretty active on NAM when I first got my 2007, for a couple years. I honestly don't remember much bad mojo early on. There were maybe 3 lemon law people early on. One had to lawyer up. I had a HPFP go out and there was a recall on some water pump that cooled the turbocharger (but only a couple caught on fire--I never got mine changed). The chain tensioner thing popped up several years later, not right away like your stuff. You're probably had more different problems than anyone I've seen and one after the other.

So the dealership have to "build a case". I am taking the car in for an 2nd time "drivetrain malfunction" problem on Monday. They have to document all my visits and the time away from the car.
Basically I think I have had 2 weeks driving without being aware of a major problem. Not a good run. Will report o what Mini do.

wow LOT OF ANGST HERE.
yeah I belatedly found out it's a **** car. hahaha. N14 engine. JCW '11. '10 production build. Tensioner replaced at 20K, clutch cylinder, water pump, washer system. Drove it from Dallas to Malibu and back again across west Texas desert - zero problems.
It's a fun car to drive. But engine does smack of poor engineering.
I would repeat what my techs who are some of the best say from LA & Dallas: keep oil topped off and changed every 5k. AND time out your turbo before shutting down. I leave my JCW running at the gas pump on long trips. Never shut down till end of trip.
PLUS ALWAYS CARRY SOME WARRANTY. I have a 100K extended warranty on the car.
I've driven a Prius hahaha - no thanks.

I agree. I sold a first gen, lemoned a second, and tried buying a third but turned away when problems were encountered during a test drive. MINIs are fun, but they've gone from bad to worse in my experiences. Not a good business model and the kool-aid flavor is sour. It's not that hard to build a reliable car nowadays, but apparently for some, it is...

The engineering is top, there were some reliability problems.

Well Mini Canada have offered me $2500 for the lack of use off my car and a further $2700 off a new car. So $5200 total. I was just about to pull the trigger on a new golf r....Still on the fence but it is tough. New JCW would be nice too but my mini is probably almost as quick with it's tune.
This would bet my 4th Mini.
If I go for the R not sure if I could handle the low res VW dealers!

TBN. Could not agree more. Clean slate. Now that my shocks are fixed though the handling and drivability has improved. With the BM tune the car is very quick. Burgers tune adds 30BHP so puts the MCS in the 220 HP range. It will be interesting to see how much quicker the JCW is compered to this. Very exciting stuff. Probably BM will make a tune for the JCW. :-)
