F54 Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic Coating?
Hello all,
Since there was no interest in answering a post under 'modifications', I'll post it here lol. I was looking for input on folks who have used ceramic coatings and their degree of satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) with the upkeep and from what I have heard, the dreaded water spots. I am looking at GTechniq or Ceramic Pro.
thanks,
-Mas

I'll be detailing my Countryman in the next couple of weeks, waiting on pollen to go away. I bought a generic ceramic coating off of Amazon, will see how it does.
I'm going the whole nine yards with this detail, want the Countryman to look spiffy for when his big brother arrives :D

I had PPF (front) and xpel (total) applied to a different car, and I love it. No issue with water spots on paint, and anything on glass gets a quick dab of Kamikaze and disappears. I use a Big Boi blower to get it 90% dry, then one microfiber towel to finish. The ceramic on the windshield seems to be fading, but the paint and wheels are awesome. Water beads and runs off like crazy.

I would still probably get it done again even with the water spots as dirt in general just seems to stick less and so it is easier to clean the car. I would say there is one thing that would worry me and that is that on my last car I did notice that there was bird dirt had managed to bake itself into the coating. I did not see about sorting it out as I got rid of the car but as I live in the uk and we don’t get a lot of sun it might be something to think about - then again it would have probably baked into the paint without the coating.
As far as upkeep goes, if you use the G Teckniq one the you can give it a top up the hydrophobic coating using a spray called C2V3 and this works quite well, only needs to be done 3-4 months in my experience.
Not sure if that helps or not
I have a one year old Chilli Red Clubman and it was coated with G Techniq the day after I got it. This is my second MINI down with it. Overall I would say I am happy enough, yes the waterspots can still be a problem. The way I looked at it was it will protect the paint from the elements. I will say that I see the water marks far more on my Red Clubman than I did on my Iced Chocolate 5 door.
