I have a repair shop that works on a lot of mini's. all in all they are a good reliable, fun car. we have seen a few problems on many of the cars; power steering fans on the bottom of the car that stop working, power window regulators and motors, harmonic balancers separating (engine front pulley) thermostats and thermostat housing leaks. if you have any questions or want a car looked at give us a call 541 741 2308 or email brooksautodoctor@gmail.com

Hi Bret,

Any MINI is a good MINI provided it has been decently cared for. My wife had an 05 MCSa for a couple of years. I have an 07 MCSa and she now has an 09 Clubman S auto.

The 05's were susceptible to thermostat leaks. We didn't have any other problem with it the couple of years that we had it.

We've had no major problems on any of them so far.....

I've only been in to Brooks Auto Doctor once, well once for service and another time to chat with them. They are one of Emerald MINI Car Club's recommended repair shops because they have high standards for their work and I haven't heard a negative comment about them. I've only heard positive things and from a number of sources.

Not sure what you consider a "work car." I drive Clubman to work 55 miles round trip every day

Are you looking for basic, cheap transportation or do you want more? For basic transportation, I would look elsewhere. A first gen Fit would be a great place to start, but I'm sure others have their favorites. I may still pick one of those up.

If you want something more, a MINI is great. Actually, just drive a Fit and a MINI back-to-back and you will see what I'm talking about. I chose the Clubman because the extra space and the club door give my five year old enough legroom when he rides.
