Thanks for the links, I didn't want to register when my current intention is merely lurking, my goal is to do the OBC DIY, found here on NAM using one of the buttons an the 3 spoke MFSW, guess I'll register now as a deeper understanding will help.

Sure. Ian's circuit can, for example, trigger a relay. With some custom programming it could leave it open for a short period of time.

I want to use the buttons to toggle the power to my Valentine One and also have a remote mute button. The receiver and remote display are mounted where they've got the best visibility, but they're difficult to control.

What kind of function are you looking for? Mikeythemini has a couple of products to give function to the phone button (but not the upper button).

This is listed on the website for controlling a garage door opener, but it is simply a relay that can be used for any general purpose. Pressing the phone button opens and closes a relay. You can set the relay to be latching (toggle) or momentary when you press the phone button. I have this installed to provide on-demand viewing for my rear view camera. It's been available and I've been using it for a year already.

This product mutes the radio using the phone button.

I wish I knew more. It appears that this project is dead. I had gotten a PM from someone over 6 months ago that indicated they were working on a project, but I have seen nothing on it yet.

Was looking for relay from both buttons vs. just the bottom. One would be better than none I guess. Like to trigger remote video and still cameras, one on each button..

Note that the products I referenced are only for the 3-spoke steering wheel. Here's the original thread on MINI2: http://www.mini2.com/forum/interior-...sw-relays.html

Speaking of buttons, I assume the same can be done with the useless button on the R56 center stack that used to be for the windshield heater (still is in Europe, I think)? A button's a button. Or is that thing actually a button or just a plug put there for balance?

Yeah, I would like to use both buttons as well. Mikeythemini has done all the ground work and should be able to accomplish it fairly easily, but I guess there hasn't been much demand.

My old relay circuit could be tailored to any button - I suppose two could be used for two buttons. I actually did a circuit for a friend once that brought all the MFSW signals out, and he hooked it into his iPod remote to give iPod steering wheel control back in the days before such products really existed!

LynnEl,
On the R50/53, that blank for the Europe windshield heater is a true dummy piece of plastic - don't know what it is for the R56.

The project is not completely dead . It was pushed to the back burner so some R56 development could take place. We are now trying to get back to working on it.

One button to release a fog to temorarily disable permagrin for funerals.

One button to release a fog to temorarily disable permagrin for funerals. It is so hard to stop smiling in a MINI and there are times when we need to appear to be serious.

I would be thrilled with just one of the buttons on the MFSW putting down both windows simultaneously and the other one raising them back up...possible? Ultimately I'd rather have the buttons work with my bluetooth phone but it seems that may be quite pricey for the module, eh?

Randy has started a beta program for the so-called TuBA project (that's "two useless buttons adapter"); you can read about it here: TuBA - Two Useless Button Adapter. So far, I'm the only person to buy into the program, and 9 more folks are needed. :( It sounds like a really cool project and product, but it's not going to go anywhere if nobody shows any interest!

Well, that project is dead. I finally got my money back (with interest, it must be said) last week for the initial buy-in.

The HackTheIbus group appears to be dead. I've requested to join three times, now, and the moderator never approves it, so it gets rejected. I think the moderator has abandoned the group. Ah, gotta love closed communities.

Bummer. I saw this thread had popped up and started reading through it only to find out that it came alive again only to find out that it was dead...

Some times I wish I had taken a couple of Elec Eng. classes in college. These sorts of things *shouldn't* be that difficult with the right tools and experience (of which I have neither

Thanks, Ian. I read through your blog posts linked in this thread earlier this morning. You may be the *only* resource, now that the HackTheIbus group is practically defunct! I'll bug you about this the next time we get together!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I bought my 05 MiniS used and I thought they were broken. I agree on muting the radio, or being able to switch from Radio to CD to MP3...that would be useful.

OH! I know! Passenger ejector seat!
