At this point my wife was so pissed at me she had walked out so I resigned myself to the discount on parts and installed some of it myself....My grandfather always told me an honest mechanic was worth their weight in gold and there is no such thing as an honest lawyer (considering he was a lawyer I found this extremely ironic).
Buy me dinner one night and I'll hook it up for you! (I work too cheap)

Just finished my alarm install:
Thanks CLASSIC MINI!!!!

PIECE of CAKE!

Took 1 hour, but mostly due to the fact that I had to relocate my oil catch can. WAY easy from 1 to 10 it was a 3 at the most. Now I gotta drive 300 miles to a dealer.... Wish my VAG-COM worked on the MINI!

my alarm install question/problem

I am having problems with my dealer on the installation of my alarm.

I took delivery of my May production MCS a couple of week ago, they say the left stalk with the alarm light is not produced by Mini. They claim no one can get the correct stalk until Mini makes the product. I see several people have the stalk w/light installed.

I have paid for the part and asked specific questions on the alarm light in March (order) and delivery (June). They now claim 74 people are waiting for the part in front of me, the part that Mini doesn't make yet.

I am thinking of buying the part myself and installing it myself, anyone tried this? The rest of the alarm is working. Did anyone get their old stalk back, if the dealer installed the new one with the light?

Also, the tilt sensor is suppost to be installed in the left hand drive (driver) rear compartment? Mine appears to be missing. Can anyone confirm what it looks like on an 05? Still a beige box mounted on a L bracket?

Cheers

My alarm is on back order to for my 2005 mini. My dealer guessed it might come in during June but they have been guessing for months and it has not happened. What do you think is the hold up from mini on this? I already paid for it in my loan. ski

The new alarm parts are probably on back order BUT THEY DO EXIST!

Yes I got the old stalk(s) back when the new ones went on.

Apparently the tilt sensor is now incorporated with the siren, so no more little L bracket mounted box. I still haven't had mine activated (DIY install), so I can't confirm.

Installing the new stalk yourself is no problem. Have you tried Classic Auto Campus? 440-205-6404

I agree, the tilt sensor is now in the siren. Just to make me feel better, I set the alarm and jacked up the car, sure enough the tilt sensor is working.

Now to work on the rudolph stalk.

I just ordered the alarm and stalk on Friday from Classic MINI. The Alarm kit itself was $195 plus a 20% discount for NAM members which came out to $156. But it looks like the price of the stalk has gone up. It was listed at $150 with a 20% discount to $120.

Just FYI....

Damnit I just waited two weeks for Classic Mini to send me a tilt sensor because I thought my alarm was missing one. When it arrived I found that the tilt sensor is housed in the siren for 05+. Doh!

Now I have to send the duplicate siren back and have the alarm activated.

Does anyone know the wire in the stalk harness which connects to the LED? I didn't but the stalk because I wanted to locate a blinking red light in a more prominent location. I need to run a wire from the harness to this location.

Ok here's an update on my situation.

I finally got time to install my 05+ alarm. Install wasn't that bad at all except for the tape around the plug under the hood and the tough to get to torx behind the tach.

Finally everything installed i took it to the dealer for activation. I tried but they said i had to pay the $55 half hour labor cost even though the car was going in for an ECU flash anyways. When i got the car back it seemed like the motion sensor wasn't working since i would leave a window open and wait 2 minutes after arming. I would wave my hand inside and nothing would happen. They took it back inside and tested it by sitting inside after arming while holding VERY VERY still. Then start waving their arms inside, it took about 5 seconds but it finally went off. I wasn't very impressed but oh well it worked, i guess.

Now comes today when i go to test the tilt sensor. Now i'm assuming my tilt sensor came included in the small siren box as stated in posts above using the part number i got from IAN. I locked the car and went in the house for a drink. I walk outside and grab my MINI Jack. With the alarm armed i completely changed all 4 of my tires with no problem.....

Now i have figure out if i've got the included tilt sensor in the siren box or not and then figure out what to do if i didn't. I ordered the kit from Classic MINI, hopefully they'll be able to help me.

:( Thameth.

But isn't the tilt sensor more to turn off the alarm when it is towed away, as demonstrated by the Governator in Twins?

Does someone have the "offical" install instructions for this. I'm looking for a rather detailed view of how to install the wipper salk. Trying to ensure I have all the information I need to install this thing really easy. As I will be doing the install in a hotel parking lot , so I can get the car coded before I drive back home

Not much detail there, but it's pretty simple. As soon as you have removed the tach (or tach/speedo) there's one little screw and one connector.

It works, found out if you hit the lock button twice on your key it will disable the motion and tilt sensor. One day i had hit it only once and went to jack up my car to change wheels and tires and got siren in my face.

Can I ask - are the cars pre wired for the roof motion sensor?

Yes, they're prewired for the motion sensor. Plug-n-play, easy as you please.

Alarm install-help

I found by loosely wrapping electrical tape around the screw and socket made installation easy for the hard to reach bolts on the alarm unit. Try to pull the screw out of the socket prior to actually installing it to the car. This way you don’t get your socket stuck after you tighten it.

GBMINI:

Ian C. who commented on your blog wrote that the red LED wiper stalk isn't needed for alarm functionality. Is this true? I am trying to keep costs down and if the stalk isn't needed in order for the alarm to work correctly, then I think I might have found away to save money. I realize I won't have the "theft deterrency" of a blinking red LED, but I think I'll get over that. Thoughts?

My dealer wanted $650 for the Alarm. Ridiculous. I'm gonna order the alarm from Classic MINI and install it myself and save $400+!!!
