Headlight Setup Think Tank

I recently bought a British Racing Green 08 Clubman S. I am working on making the car nice and dark. I liked the idea of getting a set off
black projector headlights black projector headlights
then saw they had issues with the high beam not working when set to on rather than just flashing the light. So this got me thinking of ways to resolve this issue. I have seen people doing HID swaps and then hacking together some hardware to make those work. Sadly I'm not that technically proficient so I needed a better idea.
Then I got to thinking... What if I had rally lights for my high beams? I saw one of the big complaints with the OEM lights is they only come on with high beams, which is fine by me as that's the only time I'd need em. 2 problems arose here:
  1. PRICE, I'm still in school and $400 for rally lights is way too much.
  2. Color; I'm putting headlights with this issue in to replace the shiny chrome stock lights and adding chrome rally lights would defeat the purpose
Luckily I found out about Hella Black Magic 500. These solve the chrome issue but I have a couple questions.
What is the best way to go about mounting these to the car?
Can I wire them into the high beam switch so they act like the OEM lights rather than having to run a new switch for them?
Am I crazy doing this much instead of just tinting the headlights?

The easiest way to mount the rally lights would be to drill into your bumper. Either that or come up with some sort of mount to attach to grill. To get them to come on when you have your high beams on, just use a relay kit that activates from your high beam.

If all you want is black headlights, it's pretty easy to open them up and have the reflectors painted. Literally takes me less than 5 minutes to open them up with a heat gun. While you're in there, do a HID projector retrofit.

Check out my retrofit thread here:

Please don't drill holes in your bumper; use mounting brackets either diy or purpose made for your car. See my gallery for diy brackets.
