R55 2009 radio dead.

Hello all, The radio is dead and I have checked all fuses. Before I pull off the housing to the radio head is there anything else I should be looking at before I do this? I know there is a 10amp fuse on the back of the radio but access is a pain. This is the better halfs car and radio was working the night before but she was listening to an app on the iPhone through the USB/ audio connection. Strangely there is no power from the USB jack now. I know it is connected to the radio.... Any ideas people? Thanks.

When you say "radio is dead", do you mean nothing lights up at all, or does it light up but nothing operates?

The USB is powered by the radio.

Thanks rkw, The radio is dead as in nothing is showing.. I.e no digital display and no radio/cd etc function. Next weekend I'm going to pull the front off the radio housing off.
Could a low battery be the cause of this? Dropping from 12.6 - 12.1 volt. Now on a battery tender and the alternator is charging at approx 14 volt. Think I will also be getting a new battery, as this one I suspect came with the car originally. I have heard that low batteries cause these cars to do strange things and go into battery saving mode saving power and shutting things down???
