HELP with ISTA P programming / VIN is wrong

Hi
I was using for the first time an ICOM A and ICOM B with ista P software in order to try to remove the limp mode from my transmission and after the session my car came with a wrong VIN (mine been a hatchback and now it shows as a convertible).
This is what happened:
Car was involved in a front crash and previous owner sold it as is with a change of ECU, steering column, and a lot of troubles.
We replaced most of the parts including xenon, airbags sensors, and so on, but not a single major module (ECU, EGS, CAS, FRM IHKA etc).
Our problem was only the transmission been in limp mode, and some rough behavior while iddle. Then we heard about NCS expert, inpa, etc. but we were not programmers just hobbyist. So we decided to buy the ICOM system with ISTA.
The ISTA D throws us 23 error (mostly airbags and solenoid from transmission), and it showed our VIN fine.
Then we went to ISTA P (coding and programming) and it told us that there were differences in CAS and FRM and another VIN (Not our car).
After 1hr of programming the software finished and told us that there were still problems with IHKA (dont know what it is) and need to solve errors.
Then we found out after turning our car on, that is showing a convertible, and has the following problems:
Flickering xenon
not showing rpm or speed on both speedometer and odometer
BC not working!??
And it shows the car as been with the top down??

please help me to return my car to my original configuration!!
thanks

With the MINI, if the car thinks it is a convertible, it is because of wrong version when coding. Better said, the firmware you flashed on the units is newer than the software used for coding with NCSExpert. Always use DATENs of the same or newer version to the firmware on the car.

If you do not want to code all the car (but I suggest you do), first code the KOMBI. That is responsible for the convertible, speedometer and BC errors.

The VO is stored in CAS and FRM (backup).

Hello!!
Thanks so much! it gives me a lot to start investigating.
one question: Im using ISTA P (ICOM A B) and they are version: (i dont know how to update the datens on that software).
ISTA/D (ISID /Diagnostic ) 2.37.1 (2013.08)
ISTA/P (ISSS/Programming) 49.4.200 (2013.08)

So i will proceed to check out the kombi and then the CAS and FRM right? anything that i need to write down ? I will record it anyway.
Should i prepare another notebook with the ncs expert, winkfp etc. (i really dont know how to use them).?

thanks!!

Is this your post?

After reading that post as well, I think what you need to do right now is make an NCSExpert Installation. I don't have experience with ISTA-P and since this is a dealer-level tool it is not as powerful.

After you have that in place, it will be easier to troubleshoot. As another member said on bmwcoding, your VO probably differs between the CAS and FRM. On NCSExpert you can choose which one to use.

PS: For NCSExpert you need BMW Standard Tools 2.11 or 2.12. Then you just copy the contents of the R56 SP-DATENs to the appropriate folders. You can find all the information on bmwcoding.

Hi
this is what is happening:
1. When i run ISTA Diagnostic (D) it shows my original VIN

2. When i run ISTA Programming (P) it shows a VIN that is not my car and i think is attached to the CAS.

3. You can see the KOMBI errors from ISTA P. i did choose programming and coding, but it didnt ask me for anything or how to make changes to put it back as it were before.

In my next post, i will post the result of the error from KOMBI programming.
please help! i feel that i dont know what else to do.
thanks

here is the errors from ISTA P regarding the KOMBI.
I did tried twice programming and decoding and it all ended with the same result:
first picture is the CAS id, it clearly shows on the upper left corner my VIN! and then in the information for the CAS it shows another VIN (probably from the previous owner?) does this have something to do with the key and steering column?

Second picture shows the error on the KOMBI while programming and coding using ISTA P. Global vehicle communication CoAPI general error?? .
In my previous diagnostic (before using ISTA P), there were no errors whatsoever with the KOMBI, it was only mentioning something between the CAS and FRM and the i screwed up.

So the next step is to get a XP system and install NCS Expert, winkfp, datens etc_?
Any other help?
thanks!!
