Android 4.0 and above USB music?

SO when I had my gingerbread phone, I can hook it up through USB mode and play songs off the phone's memory, but with ICS, it wont recognize the phone. It just sits there and does nothing when you click USB.

Is there any way to get the car to play music from Android 4.0 and above?

Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean doesn't work either

I tried my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4.2.1 Jelly Bean) and it won't recognize it either. I didn't have my car when I was on GingerBread so I'm not sure if it worked then or not.

I actually use a tiny
32GB USB flash drive 32GB USB flash drive
that I have all my music on. I just leave it plugged into the USB port and access through the radio.

Have you tried turning on USB debugging in the developer section? I would give that a try and see if it will allow your device to connect.

Tried it with USB debugging on and off. Phone pops a notification that it is "Connected as a Media Device" but USB option on car just says "Insert USB".

The stereo supports standard USB mass storage devices (such as USB flash drives). The problem is that many newer Android phones have switched to the MTP protocol, which is not supported by the stereo.

It is the same situation when connecting a phone to a Mac and trying to access the phone's storage. Mac does not support MTP, although you can run a special utility app: http://support.google.com/android/bi...answer=1649773

I don't know of any solution for USB other than transferring your music to a USB thumb drive. A solution would have to come from MINI to support MTP, but it may require new USB hardware.

Depends on the phone, for example if you have the Samsung Note factory cradle it has a socket on the cradle to permanently attach an aux cable.

Then whenever you put the phone in the cradle it automatically redirects all audio to aux.

Might be an option for you

+1 on that tiny flash drive. I have the same one.

The issue is no mass storage option. I spent some time trying different apps suggested on XDA. None work. None of my cars recognize the phone. I have the Samsung GS3. My GS2 worked flawless.

I found one post on the pairing of HTC Evo 4g LTE with bluetooth but didn't see any responses. Anyone have any insight to this problem? My 2012 Countryman shows it pairs but my phone, though it shows the Mini connection to pick then comes back with a response "cannot connect". I'm baffled. I fear that my phone cannot be paired as the compatible phones list does not mention this HTC model.

Just tried pairing again and entered a passkey of 0000 instead of the other code I tried earlier and voila...it worked, phone book and all. I saw a post somewhere recommending using 0000 so thanks to whomever posted it.
