Electrical Rear Fog Light Pin-out Location
Rear Fog Light Pin-out Location
My 2003 R53 is pre 7/2004, so it came pre-wired for the rear fogs. The 7/2004-11/2004 Minis have a retrofit kit for rear fogs (P/N 63 12 0 406 620). As part of the install, the pin-out for the rear fogs is pin 15 of the white connector X254 at the base module in the front passenger footwell.
Is this the same case for pre 7/2004 Minis?
Here's my plan:
I'm installing the retrofit kit for the factory fogs, already have a full switch bank including front/rear fogs. When I code up the front fogs, I'm going to code up the rear fogs as well. But what I want to do is use the "power" from the white connector to signal a relay for driving lights that will be installed later.
Once I find the correct wire, it's not difficult from there. Install driving lights/brackets. Wire up it's own wiring harness including relay using lead from rear fogs as signal wire to relay (86), fused hot from (+) lead in engine compartment to relay (30), switched hot to driving lights from relay (87) and ground to relay (85).
Only thing still causing me trepidation is how will the computer like only seeing signal voltage, instead of two rear fog lights, on the power lead to the rear fogs.
Thoughts?

I can look at wiring diagrams tonight on my computer at home, but it's possible pin numbers may have changed at the model refresh. 2002-2004 had two rear fogs and each would be on a separate circuit to the BC1. 2005+ has only one rear fog. They might have reused one set of the same pins (or maybe not).
If you don't mind running a wire all the way back to the rear of the car, you can tap onto the connector at a taillight (rear fog is the top bulb in your 2003). 1st gen MINI doesn't have bulb-out checking and there shouldn't be any problem with your plan.

Thanks!!! In looking at that link, I'm seeing the pins to be 15 and 17. All I need is a lead to one, and I'm set. Then I'll do the stop/fog light mod, an disconnect the leads to the rear fogs. That way the stock OEM switch for rear fogs can then be used for driving lights without reservation, or need to have high beams on. Woot!
