Software to pull the DTC's

I have searched my entire lunch break, but cannot find this thread - I know it exists...

I have a check Engine light, and can't remember how to pull the DTCs. I have coded the car in the past, so I have the software package that is installed allong with NCSExpert, and the OBD2 to USB cable (semi-clear plastic). The dealer can't get to me until the 25th of this month, and I can't stand driving around not knowing what is wrong...

Can someone tell me how to get this info? I'm really sorry I can't find it myself.

Load up INPA! That is the diagnostic software.

Also, if you want a better graphical interface with a lot more troubleshooting advice, find and install DIS v57.

Thanks, strobey! I knew I had it, but couldn't remember which program it was. I'll probably seek out DIS v57.

The CEL has disappeared as of this morning. Do you think that INPA or DIS will still be able to see this code?

Update:

I started INPA, and I fumbled around enough to pull the stored error codes. How do I interpret what these codes mean? I've been on a number of BMW sites converting hex numbers and whatnot, but I can't find any that are pertinent.

I need to find an INPA user manual lol.

This is on a 2011 MCS (n18 engine). It is not present in the INPA selection for r56. I'm not even sure I have the software installed correctly. The only way I could get the R56 chassis is to launch a program called "referent" and select R56 Developer, and all I get in the engine section is the N12 and N14 engine options.

Edit: Just realized this is in the electrical section, I hope that was the right one!
