So no bulb error message? I installed Depos on my previous e46 and it had bulb error messages all the time.

How about a pic of them in the night?

Love the tails. Makes the OEMs look old, especially since I had the amber markers.

They don't look or feel cheap. No bulb error messages.

Car is in for a good amount of work

Thanks.
They look great.
If only they fit the R55...
I really want to lose that amber lens.
The LEDs look fantastic.

DEPO Taillight Installation

Mamut,

What model MINI did you install them on?

Were yours the ones advertised as "JCW S Convertible LED tail lights" on eBay?

Thanks,

Al

Really?

So I decided to investigate these DEPO / REVi MotorWerks LED tail lights we're all talking about here for my R58 and the description says:

FOR 2007-2012 Mini Cooper Hatchback (Compact)
& 2009-2012 Mini Cooper Convertible Only
Does NOT fit on Coupe nor Clubman

Now how can that be...I get the Clubman part, but not the coupe issue. After all, the 2012+ hatchback (R56) and coupe (R58) are identical from the beltline down and they even use the same tail light part...I checked on Real OEM and the part numbers are exactly the same. So why wouldn't they work just fine on a R58?

So what; if anything could be the issue, or could the description just be wrong and I'd be fine?

Any thoughts? ...well other than "buy 'em and try 'em" which I'm already considering

I may have found a clue to what the issue is. The 2011+ models moved the reverse light out of the tail light and into the bumper. These DEPO LED lights seem to have the reverse light in them...although not LED.

That being the case then they could throw a code in a coupe. But just as important, that may well mean they will only be plug and play in nothing but the pre 2011 versions.

If anyone with a post 2011 Hatchback or Convertible has installed these without issue please chime in.

I received the following reply from OutMotoring regarding adding older version LED taillights to a 2011+

It has been about 14 months since I had the conversation with the customer that did the swap but basically I recall a few wires had to be jumped or switched to different locations due to the 2011 lighting differences..he said it took a few trials and he had a electrician type friend that helped figure it out...

...and that's what I'd like to avoid, I'm hoping for a plug and play version of the DEPO LED for 2011+. Maybe in the future...the near future

I got a set on mine, love the looks and functions perfect. Reverse lights are not really bright with the smoked option and tinted windows. Highly suggest HO aftermarket reverse lights.

I'm currently running PIAA Extreme Light bulbs for the reverse lamps in my stock housings.

They are the most bottom socket in the taillight. I want to say the bulb is a 1156.

I just ordered the factory Blackline LED for the negotiated price of $ 349, they will arrive next week then I will sell my factory LED taillights from my R58. See Gallery. Alot of dealers are very negotiable now to get the business.

The facelift lights are not direct swap on pre facelift without custom wiring.
