Hypothetical HID Retrofit

So I have an 09 JCW and the one thing I wish I had was the xenon headlights. If I went to a salvage yard and scored two xenon housings and put this bulb/ballast kit in:

^^DDM tuning HID kit

would this work? Would the ECU allow them to power on/ sense that there is a light out?

You'll still need to either run resistors (messy route) or learn to program with NCS expert to disable the bulb errors. You'll get bulb errors no matter what pretty much except for the fogs.

When I ordered my retro projectors and HID from TRS (theretrofitsource.com) I plugged the ballasts into the wiring inside of the headlights and I got HIDs with no bulb out errors on the 2009. I was still using the halogen headlight housing so the wiring stayed the same. If you swap to the projectors housings form MINI the plug is the same but there is rewiring that needs to be done.

1st, you need to rewire the headlight housings according to the halogen harness. 2nd, you'll get bulb out errors. in that case you'll need either the coding done to remove them, bulb out eliminators, resistors, or canbus ballasts. 3rd, you have to figure out how to rewire so you can have the highbeam and bixenon flap down at the same time.

otherwise i have the D1S hid kit from ddmtuning and it works just fine on a budget.
