Electrical HELP! with cruise control retrofit
HELP! with cruise control retrofit
I have a wiring harness off of I believe a 2004 S and I was using http://www.outmotoring.com/images/ho..._MFSW_gen1.PDF to figure things out, but nothing is patching up! The colors dont match, the pin holes don't match. Does anyone know where I can find the 2004 MFSW wiring harness diagram, or can someone point me in a direction.
MINI wiring diagrahms can all be found here :-

What part number of harness do you have ?
I retro fitted MFSW to me 2003 UK MCS, but made my own harness.
Cheers

I am not sure of the part number, but I have the radio functions working, I just am hung up on the cruise control part. I got the wired coming from the DMC (pin 101 and 85 I believe) to the wheel and the clutch switch. That I am not sure in is the one leading from the Fuse holder II( pin 3) to the clutch switch because I already have that wire on my current Mini and I wasn’t sure if I was suppose to run a different wire? And the clutch switch is not the same as the one that they use in the instructions. Mine is behind the clutch pedal what looks like to be on the cylinder close to the wall. Also the harness that I got didn’t have the wire leading from Pin 1 on the slip ring to pin 10 behind the speedo. Do you know what wire this is? And will the indicator lamp for cruise still come on even if it isn’t programmed?
Thanks a bunch Chris

I'm pretty sure the car MUST BE PROGRAMMED!!!
IF you car does not have the feature turned on in the electronics, or may not even have the software installed, it will not work.
Also many folks in early cars wanted to do this...it is a VERY INVOLVED thing to do....you may need to change out wiring harnesses to make it work too.
I would STRONGLY suggest you use the Google SITE SEARCH feature, and find some of the older threads that this sites search will no longer find....The info you find may be surprising!!

OK you have the later "hall effect" clutch switch which is different to the brake switch that those instructions use.
Check the diagrams for how this version works, I fitted a brake switch.
This will need coding, my dealer only charged for 15 minutes work.

I looked at the germen instructions, and it said for later from 04. My mini is an 02 and has that newer clutch switch. I got the wire plugged into that from the engine computer. But did you have to run a wire from pin 1 on the slip ring to pin 10 behind the speedo? And I read that there was an error in the instruction with the A9 wire. But my car had that wire already so do you think I need to worry about that one?
Thanks for your help

The German instructions are for GERMAN cars not US, so you having the new type of clutch switch is fine.
Yes I did have to run the pin 1 on the slip ring to pin 10 behind the speedo.
I suggest if your car already has the wire then don't worry about it.
Connect it up, get it coded, and see if it works.
The coding will stick even if it is wrong wiring, so you can fix it later.

Fitting MFSW to 2002 Mini Cooper Europe
Hi, having just done this I wanted to say thanks to Chris J Lamb for giving the following link in german http://www.mini2.info/forum/attachme...5&d=1192181099
This identifies that according to the vehicle year and auto or manual the swith to used ie with the sensor plate pre 07/04 on the clutch pedal after 07/04 on the master cylinder and the harness is OK for the switch on the clutch pedal but connections need to be changed for the master cylinder.
I also coded the modules - SSS Program V32 - Retrofits - MFSW and then using NCS for Dummies and then NCS Expert module EMS_R50.C03 - Cruise Control code to actif rather than inactif.
The whole thing took a long time to do since you end up stripping the seats and the dashboard etc.. Also dis/reconnecting to the DME connector (I tried drilling out plugs for terminals 85 and 101 but it didnt work) is fun!
However overall cost - secondhand wheel £50, slipring £40, harness etc. from BMW £50 - sundry £20 so £160 overall plus time. My son's car had 2 spoke wheel and since I didn't want the cost of changing airbag I stayed with this.
Thanks for you and others forums - impossible without.
