How to program a transponder key (valet key?) on '05 MC?

Hi there,

I'm wondering if I get the blank transponder key (no remote) from ebay and have the locksmith cut it, how do I program the car to recognize the key? I know this thread has one for the regular remote key but not sure if there's a different instruction for non-remote / valet key:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...n-r53-how.html

Thanks!

That procedure only programs the remote lock/unlock function. Programming the immobilizer chip for the ignition may require a dealer. The seller claims to include full instructions and you could contact them with questions. I think you'll save over the cost of a new non-remote key from the dealer although you'll still have the expense for cutting the key and programming.

Will this program the immobilizer chip?

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...for-cheap.html

Step 1 in there:

1. Buy yourself a cheap used FOB key off of eBay (see Figure 1). I won my key for about $10 after shipping. Of course, the key won't be cut to your car, but you can program the FOB quite easily to your car. To program the key, put your existing key in the ignition and turn it to the AC on position while holding your new eBay key close to the existing key. Remove your existing key from the ignition, then hold the eBay key close to the rear view mirror. Hold down the eBay key's unlock button while pressing the lock button three times, then release both buttons.

The topic of that thread is how to cheaply convert a non-remote key into a remote key. The OP purchased a new, working non-remote key from the dealer (cut and immobilizer chip programmed), and converted it into remote key using the innards of a used eBay key. He did the remote programming using the procedure but he started with an immobilizer chip already programmed for his car by the dealer.

It will be your dealer's decision whether they are willing to cut and program an aftermarket key. You need to ask them.

Is $368 for a remote key? The eBay key referenced earlier is non-remote. According to RealOEM.com, the USA prices for new uncut, unprogrammed keys from a dealer are about $60 non-remote, $150 remote.
