Time To Replace BCM ? (BC1)

Here's the poop.....
(and, yes, I have searched this and other forums)

2004 MCS
Did the rear "fog light to brake light mod" years ago. (used jumper wire and Scotch-Locks, not a paper clip)
Just the other day I was told I had no right side brake lights. No tail light either. ALL other lamps work, including reverse and blinkers.
I swapped the bulb socket plates from side to side and have the same results.
SO....after all my investigation, all roads lead to the BCM being kaput.
What say you, oh people with more electrical systems knowledge than I.

Thanks So Much!!

Jim

I just noticed this was in the 2nd Gen. Forum.
Could a Moderator please move it to 1st. Gen?

Thanks!

I had a similar right rear problem with I put a pulse unit in for the upper brake light. Both the brake light module people and a Mini tech said that the pulsar could not make only one side go our intermittently. But it did as when I rewired the pulse unit, the problem went away.

So, before you spend the big bucks on a BC1, check the wiring in the upper brake light.

Rich

PS-I also have a jumper in mine and have had it from the first week I got Artoo in October 2002. No problems until the pulsar and none after I redid all the connections and made sure there was no strain on any of the wires.

One question....when you did the mod did you use a diode to protect the BCM (the later instructions strongly recommend using one if I remember correctly)? If you did, it is possible the diode has failed.

A diode is a wise precaution but the greater risk is the increased load on the circuit. Consider Ian Cull/GBMINI's view on the subject: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-shorted.html

My feeling about this mod is that I would advise using an LED bulb in the top position, to minimize additional load.
