Apparently you can get it from the dealer for $800-1000+ it seems...

Probably not possible, but I'd sell you my cruise control if it were. I never use it.

Sorry to hear your car lacks something that you wish you had .
I remember addeding an aftermarket kit to a Honda from JC -Whitney years ago....a little computer, a vacuum servo, and a little chain that attatched to the gas pedal, and an electricial connection to the break pedal. Maybe they still sell aftermarket kits...it was a semi-universal kit....it requied quite a bit of fabrication, but no reason that a similar kit would not work on a MINI.
Getting the MINI factory cruise kit is more than likely not an option....I remember reading threads about different installs...and if I remember the hours of labor at the dealer, the parts of still available, etc, would put rettrofitting the kit in th price range of several thousand dollars....IF you coud get the parts, and find a dealer willing to do it!!

I installed this Audiovox system on my '79 MGB.
http://www.amazon.com/Audiovox-CCS10.../dp/B00029WQTW
It worked great and at the time ~2001 was only $69. It can be found for about $100. Can't say if it would work on a MINI but if it does it sure beats $800-$1000.

Doesn't the Mini use throttle by wire? I think that the aftermarket kits only work with mechanical throttles.

I believe you are correct. Heck, I tried to get a kit for '93 Escort and came up empty, I don't hold out much hope for a Mini kit.

First, you would obviously need the MFSW and the wiring that goes to it. After that, it seems it should be just programming since it's a throttle-by-wire. I'd bet you could get the steering wheel and put it in yourself (maybe want a pro to because of the airbag) and then take it in and program it. Of course, I really have no idea, but that's my thoughts anyway.

Dont panic, it only takes money

I just went through this last month....all i needed to do was purchase 2 things, and 1 hr of programming. you DO NOT need to buy a whole new steering wheel....you just need the multi-function switches, they are $171 from www.allminiparts.com, also you may need to replace the Switch assembly that runs the Wipers and Signal lights...i negotiated that price at the Dealer for $398....then all you need is to have them activate it and you are good to go....Now that being said, Have them see if they can program it first without buying the signal light assembly, some cars have the right one, mine just didn’t....Don’t let the dealer talk you into 2 hrs for the program, thats BS....tell them that you will only pay for an hour.

If they tell you it is necessary to replace the Steering wheel switch assembly, then make sure the part numbers are different on the one they plan to use...also if the need to replace it make sure you get the old part from them to possibly sell it on Ebay.
