Electrical Changing seat belt noise volume?
Hey folks, I noticed when I got a Mini loaner and when my wife test drove a clubman that the seat belt warning noise was much lower. Mine is blasting loud. Often times I may be on the phone with something sitting in the passenger seat and people hear the noise very loud. Is there a way to turn it down so its not ear piercing? BTW I have the oem gps if that helps.
Hello Iceman...I wish you the best of luck on this subject...I also started a thread to silence the GONG and there were so many people with snotty comments....put the seat belt on....try reading the manual...etc. I also want to silence the GONG for many reason...and I do drive with my belt on but when I put anything on the seat or am working on the car the chime goes off and drives me nuts. Good luck on this one...some people just want to be wise A$$es because they have nothing better to do.
If this helps...I think you have the NAV and some guys said you cannot turn ot down..not sure if thats true or not...I have the NON- nav and you can adjust the volum down but cannot turn it off totally. I am trying to aquire a seat belt buckle. Good luck
I have not chimed in hear before because of the rude comments being made but after the above comment i will try to do some explaining.
It is a federal regulation that the seat belts have an annoying "gong", "bell", "some sort of noise" to alert the driver that there is something on the seat and teh seat belt needs to be buckled.
Here are the limits as i have seen them on Mini technical bulletins for an 08 model. 07's will be different but 09's should be the same.
1. < 12 pounds no noise
2. > 12 pounds noise
3. > 12 pounds < 80 pounds belt buckled, air bag warning light
4. > 80 pounds belt buckled, no airbag warning light.
Please note that for the NAV units it seems to be what software version is runnign as to weather there is a volume adjustment.
Non-NAV units with Hi-Fi there is a volume/tone adustment. Both the tone and the volume seem to change as teh Gong settign is changed.
Non- Nav Units with out Hi-Fi no adjustment.
No to the comment above "just cut the wires" Not only would this be illegal, but it would also cause other problems with the Computer System in the car. These cars are designed to have these sensors working and if the wireing to them is cut there could be other repercusions to the computer. This would then cause the warrenty to be void. I do not think it is in the best interest of a new car owner to void thier warrenty in such a manner.
And BTW the i beleive the forums have rules about suggesting illeagal actions be taken.
Now to all the people that have been rude and that is many of you. PLEASE lets let this go away and try to avoid the lashing out at others even if they do not make sense, seem argumentative, or just plain anoyying. This is supposed to be a comunity of people that are friendly and helpful.

Good Information for those who are asking the question, however you will not stop people from being rude when another asks a quoestion no matter how much you try. It seems that if one asks a resonable question and another does not like it seems fair play to be rude.
I was given a penalty of 25 points for defending a vendor on this site...well I called the guy an Id!@t....

Attention! Sorry, that was unnecessary, but I have a super late model 2008 (as in, the next week you ordered 2009s) and I have the factory navigation and I do not recall seeing any chime-altering options.
I'll double check again, but I'm afraid if you have NAV... you also have no luck. Hopefully the dealer can, but I have fine with my chime. It is muted.... I wonder why yours is so loud? I know my significant other cannot hear the chime on the phone... I asked her.
Good luck.

This was noted on the Mini Bulletin. Unfotunately I no longer have a copy of the bulletin so i can not tell you what versions may or may not have a "gong/chime" adjustment. And with Mini it may have something to do with all the other ooptions avaliable as in if you have this obsure set up it will adjust but not if you have this other item installed.
Well there is good information here but lots of wasted space with aruging over attitude that is weeks old. So this one is done, if you have more technical input on adjusting the volume using the MINI provided controls, start a new thread.
And here is a friendly reminder for everyone....
