Electrical Removing driver side visor/vanity mirror
Removing driver side visor/vanity mirror
I am looking to remove my driver side sunvisor/ vanity mirror in place of a 7 in touch screen to use for gauges and navigation
I disassembled it all today just to take a look what I have to work with. The lighted vanity part is connected by a simple quick disconnect.
When I do go for my LCD install, will I have any problem with battery drainage by simply disconnecting this and leaving it up in the roof?
I just wonder because I know the on/off switch is in the actual vanity hinge, but will having that disconnected make the wire on constantly? always on from the battery?
Thank you
ADDITION:
also could that wire I am disconnecting be used to power the screen? I was thinking of tapping into the power in the center roof control housing, but I just thought that maybe I could use the power wire right there for the vanity mirrors. Would it still be 12 volt, or reduced for the little lights?

Does anyone have any suggestions for makeing a mount that bolts into the stock points? I would also need it to have a rigid pivot point that allows the screen to lock in place once flipped up, down, or in the desired viewing angle.
Thanks
Thanks
Leaving the quick connect disconnected shouldn't drain the battery. Think of an electric outlet without anything plugged in it. It has power but doesn't run up your electric bill. Not sure how much power is going through that line. Do you have a voltmeter?
If that power isn't enough I can at least get the power that is in the center, roof mounted control panel. At least theres a backup
But my main concern is what I will use to mount the screen in place of the visor. I'm guessing some basic metal brackets would do, but I really wonder about the hinge because it needs to be rigid and able to lock when flipped up or at any angle i need for viewing
I'm actually looking to just take the stock visor out, and literally use the LCD as the visor. I basically want to mount the visor on some brackets in place of the visor. So I wouldn't be putting another visor back up or cutting into the stock one.
