I open the light but they are cone shapes but my stock Clubman bulbs are flat at the connector...can anyone show me how to install? Are the bulbs for R56 and R55 different?

You need T10 or 194 or W5W bulbs for Clubman license plate. !!!!
It seems MC is using festoon dome type lamps for license plate.
This same bulb is used for our Clubman passenger side cabinet light. Try to install there. It should work. However, you don't need this expensive bulb for cabinet....

Wonderful. Received my eBay eyelid lights today from hong kong after only waiting 30 days... Only 1 of the bulbs work :/
They fit kind of loose too - even tried bending the pins on the harness for a tighter fit. Just worried about hitting a bump in the road and having the bulb come loose.

Anyway to get the T10 or 194 bulbs in LED with no bulb warning light?

Check my post on page 4.
I ordered 4xSMD LED T10 bulbs from Ebay. They are shipped from Canada. It took about a week to get delievered here in PA.

No OBC error. If you are looking for more bright T10 bulb,
Try this...Smokez recommended. I like it a lot. You can put these on front driving light, too. No OBC error. Cheap and good quality. 2~3 weeks delivery from China.

By the way, the height of this 13 SMD LED is 42mm. It fits on front driving light. I am not sure this will fit under license plate......Try to measure the license plate housing first before you order...I haven't try these on my license plate since they are too bright..^^

1) One of the lights was not working at all. After closer inspection, I realized the 2 metal pieces on the bulb needed to be pushed out to the sides in order to make contact with the metal inside the harness. The light now works!
2) The bulbs were extremely loose and one came loose from the harness while driving. Tried a small strip of duct tape to hold the bulb to the harness but it made it too thick to fit back in the housing. The solution that worked was to use a thin layer of silicone. In case the bulb ever burns out, the silicone can easily be cut away using a razor blade. Problem solved!

That is the bulb I am using but it is tight in my mount. I will go pull it now and take a pic. I can't remember if it has that alternating wire contact like that.
Update: Fit is not quite as tight as I remember but it is definitely not loose enough to fall out or make intermittent contact. The contacts are the same as the post above. If you are having a fit problem, just so we can compare apples with apples I took a picture of me taking a measurement of the contact thickness (this is short of the middle round portion which is quite a bit larger). One problem did surface when I plugged it back in. One row of LED's have burnt out. Since they are in series like old Christmas lights, probably one element gave up the ghost. The other side of the car is fine and even down a row it is still bright. I have been getting a pesky bulbout for the last 2 days that I cant clear, I bet that is what is going on. If this is happening with 3 elements out, the 2 story bulbs would be down 4 so we really need the 3 story type of bulb for warning free performance.
Looks like I need a new pair. I think I will go with a 26 element next time like I am running in my rear fogs and see if it lasts longer.
UPDATE: the 25 SMD LEDs are too fat to fit in the eyelid housing. So I ended up upgrading my puddle lights with them and the trunk. I swapped one of my under the dash bulbs with the eyelid that had the bad row and my bulbout warning is now gone. We need the 13 SMD style in the eyelid.

Hey smoke thanks for the reply! I think the problem is that the harness doesn't allow these lights to sit deep enough and since these lights are longer and heavier than stock they will wiggle out. I keep getting bulb out warning and 1 light only works when it wants :(
I may be going back to ugly stock soon lol ( or amber ).

I wonder if those sockets are made by different vendors. I have heard about the loose socket before and I have been blaming the bulb but I wonder if some sockets are simply more loose than others?
Also when I first did this mod, the 3 story 13 SMD style bulbs were all over the place. Now those are nearly impossible to find. I see the 2 story type with 9 SMD's all over the place and if you want three story you need to go with 25 or 26 smaller SMD's. I have a feeling the smaller elements do not burn out as easily. I have tested the 13's and 26's side by side and light output at least in my rear fogs is the same. The 26 is a heavier bulb so I'll have to report back if I start having bulb loosening problems.
UPDATE it is too fat to fit, it is shorter so it may work under the dash, works great in the trunk and puddle lights though.
I just thought of a way to fix the loose bulb problem. If you solder another wire to those leads, so it folds back to the other side it will probably improve the fit. I am pretty sure the stock lights have a contact wire that does this. A resistor lead wire should do the trick. The draw backs, you have to get it done fast or use a heatsink to keep the existing lead from un-soldering itself from inside the light.
UPDATE: the 13 SMD lights I had under the dash had conductors on both sides like I am describing above. So those with fit problems may have an off the shelf solution now.

In my JCW non clubman, the interior lights below the dash above your feet will accept the three story bulb just barely. It is a really tight fit (takes patience to get it in, but you won't have the loosening problem like in the eyelids) and it is really bright. It dims nicely as it shuts off. It might also work in the puddle lights and maybe in the trunk.

Check my post for bulb types..Pictures from my clubman.

and download a pdf file attached.
I am using one 13x LED tower on trunk light (page 1, 14). It barely fits.
As smoke05S said, you can also use them below the dash or door (page 2, 1,2). It barely fits...
