the thing under the a/c with the door lock/windows/etc toggle switches, has anyone taken that apart, to access the inside? im putting a switch for an amp in that one spot on mine that had no toggle, and i just noticed theres an LED there, even tho there was no switch there, so i want to get that amber LED out, and use it for the **** for my amp control.

also, im having the hardest time getting the damn wiring harness unplugged from the back of the toggle switches!

i actually need to get apart the piece that the toggle switches attaches to...has anyone done that?

i cant even get the wires unplugged from the back, i dont wanna break anything...

 

If you can't figure out how to take the wires off, you've got no hope taking the thing apart.

its not that i cant take it apart, i just dont want to break the clips, adn the wires are really short so i have like no room to work with and dont wanna just rip the harness off, and the clips break or smoething.

 

On most of the harnesses, there's a little thing that flips up to release the connection. I haven't seen this one in particular (yet) but maybe that's all there is to it?

 

Alright you sound like a nice guy let me see if I can explain this over the computer.

once you remove the two T20 screws holding the toggle switch panel in. This is assuming you removed the down tubes. go ahead and pull the toggle switch out, it will come out a lot futher than you think. Once you've done that. theres going to be a thing that sticks out on the driver side of the wires. push that away from the toggle switch pannel. When you do this it should just pull right off. Hope this helps If you still can't get it let me know and I will try and take pictures of how to do it tonight.

 

and is just held together by "click to lock" plastics. So assuming you've gotten the connector off the back, use some jewelers screwdrivers and the like to pop the unit apart. The LED is there because there's only one cuircuit board, and all the other stuff is added to make a "full panel". Also, lots have added the missing switch, either to avoid having to buy the full replacement unit or to make a switch to do other things.

i noticed the little tab/lever things on the wire harness. i already had the downtubes and everything off from when i ran all new wires for my system, and i already got the front cover piece that goes over the toggle switches off, and ive already drilled out the hole to put the new switch in.

ill try that when i get off work, also, the little white thing inside this where the toggle switch would attach to, is that active? can it be removed? reason is, i need to run a wire thru there (size of a phone cable in your house) becuase im not actually adding another toggle switch..im adding a remote **** for my amp for my sub.

can i take the white thing out of that unit after i get it apart? its in my way..
or will it mess up the rest of the switches?

 

comes apart. It's got 4 or 6 tabs that click into the housing, and then the rear panel comes off. It sandwitches the circuit board (the thing that looks white behind the holes is a rubber membrane, and the circuit is behind that). Yes you can put a hole into the rubber, but then you'll find the board. Be carefull if you drill it to make sure you don't ruin any traces used for the active toggles.

ya i think im going to remove that white thing, and run the wire around the board, i deff wouldnt drill into the board though. the remote **** has a little board of its own, so i sort of need to get some room to make it fit.

also, the LED, it removes right? i need to solder it to my remote **** so it comes on when the amp is on, not just when i turn the MINI's lights on. if not, ill just leave it, or order a new LED to try it out with.

and is used to light the tip of the rear fog toggle if you have that option. I don't know if I'd remove it (no big deal, but you need a soldering iron) or not. Once everyting is apart, you'll see your options. Don't worry about drilling the board, as it's not a very complicated item and has lots of free space on it.

just go slow, test everything as a mock up before cutting stuff, and then when it work, cut away!

and as soon as you test, you'll know if you screwed up!

IT's a two layer board with almost no components on it. The fact that it's two layers means you can see all the traces, and the fact that there aren't many components means that there's plenty of area where you can drill with no damage to function. That said, wait until you've opened everything up before you start poking holes in stuff!
