Help, Trouble shooting HK Stereo

[FONT='Verdana','sans-serif']Can you help?
03 Cooper S
Harmon Kardon Stereo.

Worked fine going to work this morning.
Got in the car to leave work and had No Volume?

Head unit lights up and will allow tuning, altering Balance, Fade, etc. Steering control also work. If I switch mode to CD, I can hear the CD changer rack up a cd and toggle through the tracks on the CD.

Again No volume at all.

Checked Both the 15 amp and 5 amp fuses and they look good.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Did it work after turning your car off and back on?
Your HK amp is in one of the side pockets of your boot. Perhaps wiggle its wiring harness.

Still not working.
Looked into the area the amp is in and worked the harness around but there is no change. Made a quick attempt to remove the amp to check connectors but it seems like there is a screw or nut attaching the amp in the forward part of the compartment but I couldn't locate it to free it up. Got the screw and nut removed from the bracket at the far back side.

Will try again to remove the amp this weekend.

You have to remove the entire side panel (and therefore the rear seats) to remove the amp. But removing it probably isn't going to help. I'm not sure if it has another fuse somewhere or something like that. Do you hear any noise at all...clicking, static, hum? Sadly the HK amps do not have a good track record.

You do not have to remove the side panel. If I recall correctly, you remove the little side light and then get at least an 8" Philips screwdriver to get to the last screw. It is not easy, but removing the side panel looks a whole lot harder.

Replacement cost on the HK amp is about $700, but you can find em used in the $100-150 range if you look long enough.

It's hard to figure
You would think if the HK amps are a common problem
1) Mini would make some changes.
2) There would be more aftermarket options which seem to be limited and/or just as costly.

I'm getting mine looked at tommorow so we'll see what happens.

There are no aftermarket options, and there will likely never be any aftermarket options. The system design is unlike pretty much everything out there, so any part you try to swap out anywhere in the system is likely to be incompatible with what is there.
