>>Backed into concrete debris at less than 8 mph, knicked wheel, driver's side airbags deployed.Seems like an unessary expense.

I remember when I had a Sunfire back like 6 years ago or so, they ended up sending out a recall notice for certain build dates and such for the same thing. Apparently in some cases, the airbags were deploying while the car was in motion, without coming into contact with anything.
That would be pretty damn wildy scary to have them go off at like 100mph.
In this case with the MINI's, it would be 6 of them just going off for no reason. Yikes.
That's not a cost friendly repair for airbags either. Sorry to hear.

When Dodge came out with their new pickup in 94, they had airbags going off when they were plowing snow. I'm in the salvage industry and I have noticed that VW's new Beetle hardly ever has them go off, even after tremendous hits. Who knows why? I guess anything made by man does not necessarily mean it will work.
>>And I thought airbag sensors where located in the Front of the car and only activated on Frontal impact.
Well yeah, for the front airbags. But he said the side airbags deployed
At any rate, the sensors are merely accelerometers. A severe/abrupt enough jolt can in some cases fool the airbag computer into thinking a crash is happening.

I wonder now... I'm going with nearly an all out race suspension soon.
hmmm? Guess I'd better tip toe over the railroad tracks huh?
