Justin-
Hey man no harm meant. We were so fried to get back home that it was just not gonna work to swing by Sunday. After talking to Hubie about the hood thing I am actually sticking with the scoop. It would be nice to be even more stealth than I am now with the full Cooper look, but the air flow through the scoop to the turbo is much better than it would be without it.

As far as the other item we were going to exchange, it's still yours. Just PM me your addy and I can drop it to you this week through the mail. The other option is I could swing by on Sunday as I come back south from Prescott....just let me know.

Back on topic, I hope no one takes offense at my desire to NOT post dyno info. I am not playing the elitist or snob game. It's not about keeping this to myself or some other lame ***** like that. It's about.....well I am not sure what it's about....I just feel that a project of this scope, at least for me personally, is not about dynos, or $$ vs whp, or simple one-up-manship. It just smacks of import tuner/HIN style and mentality. It seems anti-MINI to me. Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. Like I said, when I dyno and tune with Jason at Mynes here in the coming few weeks I will forward all the data and logs to Hubie. If he wants to publicize the numbers it's his decision. Out of respect for him, and his less-is-more bravado, this seems right to me.

Peace.

Gonna go stare at my cars engine now......it's like I jst drove it home from the dealer again. God, I love this car.....

I see where you are comming from, not wanting to post dyno sheets. But as you just said, ecu tuning is the reason to dyno.

Hey J...stop being a poser and post a dyno for all us haters. If you don't...how do we know your not making this all up! Anyways, yeah...If your down, I would love to see what that thing would do on a Cooper (short of throwing a rod) And BTW, we will have to talk about some turbo dealings as I might be squeezing some money out of the house.

Oh SNAP!!!

It's on like donkey kong!!

Hit me up with your number again and we can talk details.

And to any other folks interested in talking this crazy turbo thing over I am always happy to lend my opinion and perspective. If I can't give you all a dyno, at least I can give you some personal experience advice! Just shoot me a PM with your number and we can talk.

Cheers,
-Joel

Filled up with some 91 yesterday. Turned the boost back down to 19psi and it is still running super strong. No detonation in spite of our crazy 100 degree temps here in AZ. The Apexi is doing its job as my AFRs are running 10.8-11.5 at 50%-WOT. That's with the fuel trimmed back about 25% on the 440s. The only thing I have noticed is at very light throttle I get abit of a lurch action. I think this is because the "low" throttle position on the Apexi is set at 10% and when I am really close to this position on the pedal the Apexi and ECU are arguing over what AFR to run. The wideband is supporting this as it flips from 11-ish to 15 when this is going on rather than holding a steady 14 when I am on the throttle a bit more and the low Apexi setting takes over.

Just thought an update was worthwhile!

very very cool update... I don't know a crapload about turbo engines but it seems with those afr's you could run this thing as a dd reliably... good work and good work fbr.

p.s. super jelous.

Yeah I am running it all over town and daily on my 12 mile trip to work and home. In stop and go traffic it is uber smooth. It could be thought that hitting boost at 4200 is too high, but the nice thing is around town it is really sedate and doesn't attract the wrong attention.

I really wanted to keep the AFRs around 11 when I'm on it hard. I *could* lean it out slightly more, the internals would take a little detonation, and I might gain a few hp, but not worth the risk IMHO. It will be better once the fuel system is installed and I can have Jason at Mynes do a custom tune, but with how strong it is running now, I just don't see the point to spending $600 only to have to do it over again once the fueling is all changed.

I will keep you all posted. Oh! As far as reliability, I have thrown an EML just once. It was totally random. I was slowing down at an off ramp from the freeway and making a right turn. I heel-toed the corner and pop! It went to limp mode. I switched it off as I was rolling and back on and it was cleared. So in total it has had 2 EML's in 500 miles of city and daily driving. Not once has it done this when I am pushing the car in boost or really driving it hard. Both have occured when I was slowing to a light or a turn. This is exactly what Brian and Hubie predicted as far as "when" an EML would occur, but it does not happen even 1% of the time. I know stock cars that have had more EMLs than me!

Sorry man. Any time you happen to be coming through AZ, you are welcome for a ride Paul. In fact with how far you would be from home, I would let you drive!

Mmmm I think you should have a word with Brian first on that one and I'm sure you'll retract your offer very quickly

Pfffff 28psi and 400+ is where it's at on the MINI. Just make sure you have your hand on the shifter BEFORE you can it, otherwise you won't be able to reach for it

Where are you gonna be? I am down in Tucson. Unfortunately I am working all week and am on call this weekend so I can't even head up to PHX. If you happen to be down here though, I would be happy to take you for a little spin in it!

And on another note. 522 miles over the last 3 days. Highway driving 80-90mph, 100+ degree outside temps. No problems. Oil temp running 170-200 degrees. Coolant right in operating range. 24.3 mpg, calculated, no based on the computer. A/C blowing freezing cold while the car is moving. Typical MINI condenser in traffic though. I love this car!!

Yeah but the 805HP Saab 9-3 in Eurotuner would be even better in the Mini.
