Drivetrain Will the One-Ball Satisfy?
I went to a local shop and got it done for $53, in about 20 mins.
It looks to me that "header + hi-flow cat + one-ball" is more reasonable than a complete cat-back but I still have yet to hear real world comments from fellow Namers who have this set-up with one-ball. I am happy with one-ball.
Had my "oneballectomy" done today (25min/$60.00 out the door) and I have to say I like it. A "little" throatier response and it seems to like it just fine. I have no doubt that it will satisfy for a looooong time before I come up with $700 for a SS catback system, lol. Saw a wicked 944 hit 200 on the dyno behind the muffler shop while I was waiting, very impressive!

So a year after getting my one-ball, I was getting restless... looking at lots of pretty SS exhausts... then realized that all I didn't like about the one-ball was the way it looked - I love the sound and the cost and don't think I'm paying a performance penalty... So I gave it an extreme makeover...
Before:

Note the ugly, dirty muffler, skidplate, and lower control arms...
After:

Blacked-out exhaust, battery box skidplate, battery box rear heatshield and lower control arms, and custom-fabricated and installed a pair of Thermal R&D 3246A tips. Now I'm REALLY satisfied.

Paul.... Looks great! I accomplished the same using the optional 3" tips available from MINI... I'm running the Minspeed oneball, and have noticed a great deal of movement at the tips... Moves to the left and extends when hot.. Kinda puzzled and not to happy with this. I love the sound, though... Probably switch to an Alta or Borla system in the future

Don't know what to say about the MinSpeed one-ball conversion - I have no experience with that. I'm running a hard-pipe welded one-ball and it's solid and stable.
I just spoke with Chapo at AAA Muffler and let him know that there might be a bunch of MINIs visiting him for partial castrations during AMVIV weekend. He say's he's open and operating on Saturdays and can take care of you.

i just got my one-ball mod done earlier today. $50 out the door. love it! it does sound sliiiiiightly tinny with lots of throttle, but the car does seem a lot more responsive! took them about 30 minutes and i was out. now all i need are some better exhaust tips...
