Does Unichip raise top speed?

It seems like I read this somewhere that the Unichip takes off the top speed limiter. Does any body know if this is true. I might find out at Road Atlanta in a couple of weeks anyway.

I don't know if the unichip removes the limiter, but you will have to have one fast mini to hit 135 on the back straight at Road Atlanta. I have seen 115 in a stock S. This year I have a pulley, so we shall see how much of a difference it makes.

I doubt a unichip can raise the rev-limiter to allow for a higher top speed. The Unichip works as a signal processor (in the MINI) and I believe the rev-limiter is an EEPROM value with in the ECU. So there's no way for it to be able to alter that value at all. The best it could possibly manage (which I don't think it can) would be to intercept the engine RPM signal and send a different one, but that would probably cause all sorts of other problems.

My unichip did not alter the RPM of the rev limiter. But as far as top speed goes?????? We have several S's in our club that have stock ECU's and have been over the stated MPH limit by MINI - with no problems ( cutting out, etc... ). I know my S has been well over the limit set by MINI and it has never cut out or ?? It just keeps on pulling. ( this was pre-unichip ).

I don't know if it has something to do with the numerous re-flashes that MINI does to the pre-05 MCS's - maybe they left the MPH limiter out of the re-flash?????? I don't know.

I have talked to several members of our local club and many have been well over the MINI limit with no limiter kicking in.

It may be a hit-or-miss type thing -- take your car to the track and see if it has a MPH limiter. Either way you will have a good time
