Alta CAI cleaning time-maybe

so i was looking at my odo and realized its just about 5000 miles since i installed my CAI. I was trying to rememebr when Alta recommended cleaning the filter, but for some reason every 10k popped up in my mind.

either way im probably going to do it in the coming days or latest week or two, because 5000 seems like a nice amount of miles of gunk to get in the filter, but my mind couldnt help wrestling with whether it was right about thiniing 10 thou or not

any input?

Well, it really depends on where you live. Someone who drives 10 miles on a dirt road every day will need to clean it much more often then someone in the city.

My SA said that for a normal city driver, every 8-10k is plenty.

I clean mine every 5,000 miles when I change my oil.

I think, since every MINI is different, the bast way will be to look at it and see if it is dirty. If that red color has faded, then clean it. When I purchased mine, they told me to clean it every 10K miles or do what I described above

For my all city driving, 10k miles and it was black on the under side of the filter. Needless to say I'm going to clean it more often now. But one of the benifits of the foam filter is that it doesnt clog/hinder performance as it gets dirty. Someone should run dyno test with a really dirty one, then clean it and run again.
