Crank Pulley install help...

Hi Everybody,

Well I think I am ready to bite the bullit and go for a crank pulley. I talked with Roland from GTT this morning through email about his 3% version. The GTT pulley seems like the way to go for sure!

I know I could perform the install myself, however there are so many needed specialty tools that I dont have... Is there anybody in the Santa Barbara, Ventura, LA area that has the tools and would be willing to help me with the install???

I really dont want to pay a shop $80+ per hour for a job that I know I could do and would also enjoy doing.

I would make the help worth your while and it would be fun for us all.

Also, if anybody knows where to rent the tools I guess that would also be an option. My usual MINI mechanic buddy MarioKart does not have these tools, but I am sure he would also come along to help and hang out.. We all know he is not installing any mods on his MINI for a while.... Sorry Mario.

Let me know what you guys think.

I need some help!!!!

Jasun

What kinda help are you looking for?

Never mind - I now see the message (it didn't post initially). I don't know of any individuals, but let me know if you decide you want to use a shop in the area.

Not the specialty ones - we use the factory puller, the factory tensioner tool, and the factory installation tool. Without them, it is very difficult.

Hope that helps!

You’re not the first to make this tool request, but you could be the first to get a loaner/rental/re-sale kit started. I highly recommend the thread protector and the installation tool; both can be had for about $82. A generic bolt grip puller (metric bolts can be purchased at NAPA) can be used instead of the stock extractor and the holder eliminated all together. So for about a $100 in installation tools, not counting standard tools to gain access, you can do the job. I don’t doubt you could sell the set later for a little less but the difference would be worth it.

I use the stock tools and they make the job much easier but there are work arounds. I’m sure the MacGyver types will chime in soon to give some tips.

Wish I were there to give you a hand and get it done. I rented a balancer pulley puller from Pep Boys, did in my driveway. You can too, if you need any tips PM me I'd be glad to help. Jim

Good Idea!

I have a local Pep boys here in SB. Do they have most of the tools that I will need for rent?
Does Pep boys typically rent tools? I did not realize they did that, or is it a deal where you have to be in the know?

Can somebody give me a clear list of the exact tools that I am going to need. If any of the tools can be substituted for more easily available tools that basically perform the same task... I am up for that!

I just have to know exactly what to get for the crank pulley job. I have more than enough of the basic stuff..

Thanks for everybodies help!!!!
