Hey all, I have an affliction, it's called Pulley Envy.

I just got through experiencing a pulley modded "S" first hand, (many thanks to Jayoung for his time and generosity). As we were screaming down the road, hearing that much earlier whine of the supercharger, feeling the definite shift of, and increase in the torque curve and having my eyeballs pinned to the back of my skull, I screamed out adulations,

Here is my two cents.... anyone contemplating doing this mod, as I have been doing for some time with great apprehension; beg, borrow, steal, do whatever it takes to find someone who had this modification, willing share it , and experience it first hand. You WILL be impressed. I'm going to be making some phonecalls and get this done!

Sorry bud!

Am I an enabler of your addiction?

"Oh yeah, go ahead and drive it."

I feel like a crack dealer.

My pleasure! I wish I had the chance to drive a Mini with the mod I wanted before I went and got it. It's one thing to read, it's another to drive. With the pulley I was fortunate enough to have that opportunity and it was my pleasure to pass that on to someone else!

Well, it is a risk but here are my rationalizations.

1) John Cooper works uses a 15% reduction and MORE MODS.

2) Not ONE report of a blown engine, melted piston, warts on your butt... by anyone who has done the mod on either the MINI2 or MCO board. (Subaru WRX Redux?)

3) This includes people who BEAT THE TAR out of their Minis and have modded said Minis even well beyond just the Pulley.

4) The car does not feel "overpowered" with the Pulley mod; no new vibrations or sounds. It does not lose mileage (unless you're on it all the time) and in fact gets better mileage.

Fair enough?

-Jim

I'll say it again - Jim, you are the devil.

I just ordered the Madness bar from Randy, will be getting the H-Sport springs next week (hopefully), and with any luck maybe a pulley before summer's end...

I agree, he is the devil and I have been tempted by the "sweeter fruit", a pulley modded "S".

I too was concerned about the warranty, but then I thought of my other car, a '98 Crown Victoria, on which I paid an extra $1600 for an extended warranty, which I never got to use and it's almost up. If the Crown Vic could withstand my foot on the floor driving day in and out for almost 72000 miles, I'm sure that the MINI will go past the 50000 mile mark with no issues. Pulley, pulley, baby. Besides, that's what savings accounts are for. I wish I had that $1600.00 right now, to spend on MINI mods

I've crossed the threshold of the Pulley Rainbow just once my friend. But I'll try to explain what awaits you from my limited experience.

The pulley rainbow looks and feels like no other object on earth. Your eyes, ears and all senses will be tingling with pleasure in this place.

On the other side of the rainbow is the intoxicating whine of the Supercharger at much lower RPMs, (~ 3K), the joy of being pinned to your seat in pure addrenaline producing acceleration, and the pleasure of actually feeling the shift of the torque curve much earler than stock.

It is a wonderful, warm, tingly all over, embracing place that I have visited but only once my friend.

It is a place that can only be aquired by the pulley install on a Mini Cooper S. It is a place that I hope to visit on a daily basis; somewhere over the rainbow, the pulley rainbow.

Motor on

My question is how are the tech's going to know how or if the pully was done unless you go in and tell them. Not like they are going to dyno the car. And if you do blow it up just change it back to the original before you bring it to them. Am I missing something here or am I just ?????

Nobull,

My guess is that the techs at BMW will be looking for the mod. I believe the new pulley is two-tone, two piece and different from the original. If there is some way to see it, they will, and it will probably be noted somewhere. I guess you could always change it back and say they were seeing things........

I am really looking forward to getting together with Randy in San Diego in July to my pulley installed. Most of the fun of owning the car is making it my own with just the things I like.

You know every day I discover something new about the car.... like the way that the windows roll down just a little bit when you get out of the car and go back up when you close the door, I just find stuff like that cool.

Davbret,

How do you like your QS exhaust. I have all but been scared off of it from the posts that say it is LOUD and DRONES......and probably doesn't call its mother or something equally bad.

couple ?'s How long have you had it and how loud is it compared to stock

That's all for now, but I'll be watching all you mod fanatics......

Yes, I'm afraid it'll be blatantly obvious to the eye under the bonnet that you have a different pulley. The best part, though, is the P & D pulley is much prettier and looks to be of better quality also!

Remember the first time you saw a Playboy magazine as a young man?

Well, that's it. At least that was the expression on TwoMini's face.

It was pretty funny, it started small and as I hit 4th and he could still feel it pulling well I glanced over. After I let off and slowed he merely said with determination:

"Sold"

Did you see the post about the guy who posted on a Subaru site that he blew his modded WRX and pulled all his mods off to get it covered under warranty? Someone else on the Subaru site got ahold of every Subaru dealer in the state (apparently they were in the same one) and had them on the lookout for this guy.

I was attempting to extract myself from all this pully madness. I jumped in my MCS and slipped in my favorite CD (something from the 70's - I'm old). Suddenly the CD player started playing my classic rock disc backwards! Over and over I kept hearing the words "turn me on pully man, turn me on pully man..."

Goodbye warranty (I've only got 33,000 miles left on it), hello Randy. See you at the Florida Pully Party.

I was talking yesterday with Randy at great length about the pulley breaking warranty. It will break the warranty for anything happening to the supercharger but that really is all that they could pin on you. Randy has seen 2 superchargers go out without the pulley mod and NO superchargers go out with the new pulley YET. Doesn't mean that it will happen, but he stated that you really shouldn't worry about the mod since it would only void the supercharger appliance. He also stated that if he does the mod and the supercharger blows up, that he would provide a new one at cost with is considerably cheaper than what you would pay at the dealer.

Cool dude... Trust him.

Do the pulley mod... I am. I have to find 400 first...
