Hmmm,

I didn't even notice them.

I'm sure he just gets those for the informative articles, that's all.

My attention was obviously drawn to the DFIC...

Something I've been lusting after for some time, myself!

The car does feel like it has more power by keeping the supercharge temps down. I'm not sure if the dyno will show anything since the car will not be moving, but I will do it anyways.

When you call Peter and order the new boots make sure you order their new thermal blanket that lays under the DFIC. It should drop the temps a lot.

Thanks Scott, now we are twins with the DFIC. We missed you at the last breakfast on Saturday. I hope you and your wife are well, I know you have been dealing with a lot. I hope to see you soon and maybe a race is in our future,

Thanks again Peter for the great product and keeping things low key with the girl friend. I love the DFIC and what it has done for the car, it seem like the air is always 10F lower. The Alta did worked well but this is perfect. I just wish I could drive it more but I'm having more issues with my pulley. I think Steve will have it squared away Wednesday or Thrusday.

Mario: How do you know this? Do you have temperature probes, and if so, where and how are they located? What gauge are you using?

cheers,

I got mine with the Ceramic coated bottom, and I dont think there's a need for the blanket?

The coolest thing is after running it hard, driving home, pulling it into the garage, popping the hood and putting both hands on both the Horns, pre and post intercooler... Passenger side is warm, almost hot, and drivers side is cold, not cool, but cold!!! Ya, I'd say it's working!

Now about those intercooler boots... :::calling Peter:::

Oh crap, he's probably still sleeping, lazy West coast peeps, don't you know, you should operate on eastern standard time!

No gauges just by feel, that why I used the workd SEEMS. As you know the Mini loves cold weather and I can tell when the outside air temp drops from 70f to 60f because my car starts pulling harder. This is the same feeling l get with the new DFIC, the air just feels colder. Gauges would be nice but too much trouble. I'm sure someone else will do it or has done it already.

Sorry, I get it. The impact on your car's performance of the DFIC is *the same as* the effect driving your car in 10F lower ambient temperatures has?
Don't be so sure that there are measurements out there that support this conclusion.

Nice, what made you go with the M7 over the Alta V2.0?

Mario-

Hooking up a vacuum/boost guage to the DFIC is VERY VERY easy. I did it on my lunch break!

All I did was buy an Autometer vacuum/boost guage from Summit Racing. Bought the extra mounting cup with a hole in the back for the vacuum line, and it's got everything you need!

The guage comes with a 1/8" NPT hose adapter that just happens to fit in one of those back ports on the DFIC!

I used the one on the driver's side, so it would show actual boost going into the engine after the intercooler.

Basically followed: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ht=boost+guage

Except with the DFIC, you dont have to remove the intercooler to get to a vacuum/boost source.

Because M7 came out with it first and to me Alta seems like they copied a good idea. Also Peter gave me a good deal for being one of the first few for the new Thermal coated DFIC's. Also I already tried Alta v 1.0, so it was time for a change. The last reason is, like Peter I own a small company and pride my self on customer service. Peter and Randy seem like stand up guys and never act as if I'm bothering them, no matter how many questions I have. Also the products they carry seem to have a lot of R&D done and they back there product. If something goes wrong they will bite the bullet and take care of the customer, even if it means losing some money.
Mario

Thank you but I already have the boost guage and volt meter in my car. The problem is I'm pushing more than 17psi and the guage I have only goes to 17psi. What I really want it and oil temp or wide band.

It's a silica based material, black in color, and with early testing the prototype yielded amazing results. They placed the blanket on a hot plate and measured the temp of the bottom side at close to 400º and on the top side it was only ~ 180º. I'd say it's a fairly effective thermal barrier . I watched Randy and Peter install this at last weeks Motor4Toys meet in Agoura Hills. I'd be interested in seeing how effective it was. We spoke in detail about this mod. I ended up buying my DFIC at that show (Actually it was Mario's! We weren't sure if he was showing up so I stole it .)

According to a brief phone call to Peter today, All future DFIC units "should" be shipping with at least a water sprayer, which is currently in the prototype stages. This thermal blanket is pretty neat stuff, and I'd recommend it to anyone with or without the ceramic coating on the bottom side of the intercooler . The one they had installed wasn't pretty, but I'm sure once it goes into production they'll make it look just as nice as the rest of their stuff!

I highly recommend the DFIC to anyone looking for a performance gain, especially if you live in a hot climate. I've noticed a dramatic difference in pickup in higher gears, and it's a consistent feeling, there is no heat soak to speak of.

I took a look at another Cooper S which had a water to air IC installed, and I question it's ability to cool any better than this unit, which is significantly cheaper. I'd be very surprised if the W->A IC had a gallon of water in the entire system. Once the water heats up (Water is great at absorbing heat, but not so great at getting rid of it.) you're pumping 150-160 degree water through your IC, explain to me how that helps cool the intake charge!

My MC40 with the MMS4 kit on it had a water to air IC, after driving the two cars I can tell you that my old car definitely had heat soak issues, especially after being driven hard. It took a LOT longer to restore the performance once it was hot than it does with a simple air to air IC.

I don't even have the new scoop yet, I'm told this makes a big difference as well!

You should be able to swap out that gauge pretty easily.

How did your dyno run go? (If you've gone yet)

Not yet, the car is in the shop, the pulley won't stay one. I might have it back tomorrow. BTW how did you get 236whp on your last Mini? What did you have in it?
