headers RED HOT!!!

now, i know that a header gets very hot but, my obx was red hot yesterday after gettin on the throttle for a couple of minutes at about 5000 rpms, not a consistant 5000 but, i was defenitly runnin it hard.
i must say i was freaked out and shut the car down and havent started it since.
i dont check the headers very often and i have heard of headers gettin red hot before but never that quickly.

is this a normal thing with headers?

thanks guys

Take a picture next time. I would bet it's normal, run a car hard and it heats up, but what do I know.

Was it dark? The header will get fairly hot. And when it is dark it very noticeable.

What's wrong with pushrods? Chevy has worked wonders using them.

The first time I took my boat out at night I about freaked out. Big block Chevy with over the transom headers and the lower 18 inches of each pipe was glowing red all the way across the lake. My Jackson Racing headers glow in the mini at night after a hard run, its not abnormal.

For weight to power ratio the LS series is amazing and the cars they come in stock typically get over 30mpg highway. They're very good, light, compact motors with a huge aftermarket.

I was refering to the HP/Liter... But let's not get off topic here.

The LS6 Chevy 350 has about the same specific output as the MINI Cooper, and also using 16 valves...

But who cares about HP/Liter? For HP/$ or HP/lb or HP/MPG pushrod motors are way ahead. I mean for less than half the price at the dealer, the Chev puts out 3.5x as much power while weighing only double. Plus the LS7 7.0L has even better specific output and similar weight but belts out 505hp with a 7000rpm redline. And that's normally aspirated... with pushrods... and no gas guzzler tax required.

In comparison, every car with overhead cams and even close to that kind of power from any manufacturer must pay the gas guzzler tax.

BTW the header thing is normal for any car with tubular manifolds. You normally just don't see it because it's usually covered by a heat shield.

A 7.0l V-8 that only makes 505hp is making 72hp/liter. That is a huge motor and things that are just big I don't give them much respect. Just my own personal opinion. And as far as mods go with thoose motors... How long did it take to make a 1000hp on the LS1?

I'm really sorry about going off topic, but large displacement does not equal large in size.

Did you connect the O2 sensor back on?
You have not been messing with the timing right?
