Drivetrain uh oh - my wife's Mini
uh oh - my wife's Mini
need a little help..........
already have a (very) modified MCS, but bought the wife an auto MCS and can't help doing - some - small - mods.
gotta do air intake and software................. and sway bar and brake pads.............. probably Schroth harness if I can get her out for the occasional auto-x
ok - how noticeable, abrupt, and just plain wrong would a 19 % pulley be on an AUTO MCS ?????
thanks

I would stick to a 15% reduction pulley... The auto transmission is going to be the weak link in the drivetrain. You might want to re-think do any mods.. maybe a cat-back, intake... My friend has an MCSa. It's got a high stall converter that makes it sit and rev before it moves... I understand why its that way.. but its almost too much hesitation.
I have a 2006 MCS auto. Went with a 17% pulley, MTH Tuner software, Alta intake, JCW injectors, JCW cat-back exhaust. The car is GREAT! I'm having a head done for it now as well. Currently at 24,000 miles with no problems.
The only thing I'd change is I'd go with a 19% pulley (in fact I'll probably put one on when the head and cam get changed out). The reason is that the ECU forces an upshift at 6750 RPM regardless of the mod to redline of the engine that the MTH software does.
The transmission seems strong to me. I don't beat up on the car but I do drive it enthusiastically.
Also, for what it's worth my car doesn't have the hesitation that mikem53 spoke of - it's very tight.
