Drivetrain (Cooper S) MINI Cooper S (R53) intakes, exhausts, pulleys, headers, throttle bodies, and any other modifications to the Cooper S drivetrain.

Drivetrain How about a switchable ECU. One you can select settings on.

My Mom's 10 year old stock Toyota Supra has a switch on it to go between sport and normal. (As an aside there's a switch to change between different suspension settings too. )

How about an ECU with a switch in the drivers compartment with modes like 1) Sport 2) Normal 3) Fuel Efficient ?

I seem to remember reading about an ECU upgrade for VW's that had 4 settings;

1 - Stock
2 - "Torquey" (For around town)
3 - "Superman" (Juiced)
4 - Valet (Slooooow)

It had 4 buttons on a keyed control box that was in the cabin.

That would be sweeet for the Mini.

Anyone else know of what I speak?

I actualy contacted revotechnik a little while back, and still hadn't heard back from them. They are opening up a US distributor in FL as of April 1, so maybe we can find out more then. I just sent them another e-mail.

What I really want is a magic wand that I can wave over the bonnet and make 250 horsepower that is totally reliable, with a sequential gearbox and four wheel drive. Any chance someone can develop that for me?

This is called EMCS. My company, Perfect Power Inc. is working with APR on this for the Mini Cooper S. Hope to have something underway in a week. It can be switched between four maps with the cruise control switch. More soon.

Oh totally, I'll have James take the Bentley to the bank and have a cashier's check drawn...will 2 million be enough or should I make it out for 3? You can meet me at the airport. Will have the private jet fly me out to CO to deliver.

I have also been able to get in touch with Revotechnik and they are excited about developing a package for the MINI in different levels of tune.

As I said - exciting times!

Yeah, I'm hoping for a dash mount (or MFSW) switch to change modes rather than having to load a new program. That way I can be tooling around town or down the freeway in fuel efficiency mode then when time arrives to hit the twisities (see my recent post the fun I had up on Cave Creek Road), then I can let her fly!

How about using the mysterious "unused" button on the MFSW to toggle through the multiple computer programs, that sounds reasonable. A concern is providing feedback to the driver, letting them know what progam they're in!

oh, and what Ryan said:

Hi,
The cruise control still works fine. It will probably work on the Mini by pushing and holding the - button. This will make the car coast if you try changing programs while the cruise control is on. Here is what it looks like with programmer.

Perfpow, is your mod that daughter card?

Looks like a micro with flash, yes?

Cheers,
Ryan

We haven't developed pricing yet. It will obviously depend on several factors (development costs, what is provided with the kit in the form of future updates, etc).

Look for it to be under $1000.

As far as using other than the cruise, the reason it uses that is because the cruise is run through the ECU. We would just have to work out the functions that are driven through the ECU and activate someithing to run it with if you don't have the cruise.

I still may need volunteers in the "south" with a pulley and without (stock).

Whoever helps us with the development would be just about guaranteed a free unit, plus a lot of dyno time on the car.

Now I HAVE cruise control, well because it came with the premium package. But why would you need (or use) cruise control on an S? I've had cruise on every car I've ever owned but only ever used it on my first car which was an automatic. I don't use it with manual - I figure, what's the point. I just tried mine once to make sure it works!

My point being that if I had to give up my cruise control for more power I'd do it in a heartbeat!
