Hey guys, I'm in the market for an intake for my MINI Cooper and I'm wondering which one I should get. Right now I'm considering the Pipercross Viper from mini-motorsport ($330), the Pipercross air induction kit from mini-madness ($160), and the Monster MINI CAI from monstermini.com ($250). Anybody have experience with any of these intakes? I'm still wondering which one I should go for... I've got about 360 to work with so I could get the PiperX Viper, but I wouldn't mind saving a hundred or two on the others. Is there really that big of a difference between the three?

Thanks in advance

The CAI world for the Cooper is tough. The Viper kit does make power, but it's really expensive compared to the other stuff out there. The other option that we've been trying to sort out for a few months now is the Green Filters kit - which also comes with a heat shield and high flow filter.

If you want the most power, the Viper is the way to go, but we still aren't talking about monster gains. I think you may be just as happy with one of the cheaper units - the Moss, the other Pipercross, or the Green filters. Give me a call and I'd be happy to go over all that's out there.

Here are some pics:

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick response. Where can I get that green intake and what are the prices for it? It looks pretty nice.

Do you have any input on the K&N style filter vs. foam filters? I've read a few articles about how the K&N style filters can let through alot of contaminants and dust etc, but I haven't read much about the foam style filters like in the Pipercross. Also, which type does the Viper use?

Thanks again

The Viper is a Piercross unit. That's one of the reasons I like the green filter - they have great filtration without choking the flow. The pricing is still being worked on, but estimate around $250. That price is by no means firm.

You can do some reading on the Green Filter at http://www.greenfilterusa.com .

Let me know if you have any other questions.
