Aftermarket + Warranty

Leaving JCW out of the conversation...

I know MINI dealers are generally pretty good about honoring warranty service even with aftermarket modifications (so long as the modifications didn't cause the problem).

I'm wondering, though, if I had the dealer install aftermarket parts for me, then maybe they would be more willing to warranty it? I know I should ask my dealer about this, but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this.

That depends upon your dealer. For Example, one of our local dealers will install MinIMania parts and Warrant them. In fact, they were pushing putting on a MiniMania Stage (whatever) kit vice JCW. Another one is mod friendly and will warrant whatever they install. It all ... depends ...

Of course, if you need work and your not at your local dealer but say, at the dragon ... your SOL

The dealer in Oahu wouldn't even install my fumoto drain valve when they changed the oil. So I guess they wont do any other aftermarket things. Good luck with your dealer.

Every dealership has their own unique stance on this issue. My dealership's policy is that aftermarket parts are basically forbidden. They will not install them for you, and will likely blame those parts for any failure. Other dealers are much more forgiving, and will install exhausts, intakes, and even pullies!

But that doesn't mean they'll warrant those parts; not by a long shot! Nor will they warrant any stock part that was damaged by the aftermarket part. Which, of course, is perfectly logical, if you think about it!
