welding OBX header to stock cat

I'm taking my MCS to the shop this morning for instal, anyone have any more detail or pics on the weld between the header and stock cat. They'll figure it out I am sure, but its always nice to have more info beforehand. Thanks.

I read in one post that if you slip the OBX bell adapter around the cat inlet and draw a line where it stops then that is the cut point and that is where it gets welded.
Don't know if that messes with the proper overall length or not. You don't want any push or pull stress on the center rubber pipe hangers.
If you got a good shop I'm sure they will know what to do.
Make sure they double nut or use copper nuts on the spring bolts. Since they aren't in the kit they might not put them on.

I think of a flange as the oval shaped piece with 2 bolt holes the part that gets welded is the bell shaped slip connector with flange around it and not welded.

Correct - this ensure diameter consistency. Also weld should be stainless.

Measurering is a VERY good idea. Point this out to the installer.

This is KEY - you either double nut or cooper nut now OR you might as well make a second appointment w/ the installer. Before you go to the installer pick up either two cooper nuts or 2 extra regular nuts.

follow these points laid out by OutBackBob and you will be very happy with your header.

On last thing - many of us have had some manifold bolt difficulty (i.e. stock screw(s) not wanting to go in due to alignment. In my case I had 1 bolt that would not go in and I resolved the issue by shaving a little of the screw head diameter off (1/16 of an inch) others have bought new screws with smaller heads.

I found the easiest way to install the header was simply to ditch the bolts, and stick studs in the head.

Are you liking the header?
How's it sound with the stock cat?

I do like it. Exhaust sounds better, it was a little weak sounding before. And I feel the cojones!

Since I only had problems with one screw - I didn't go that route but this is a viable option as well.

I want to get the obx header, but still not liking the fact that no cat is included. I do not want to have to take the stock header off and then have it compared to the obx header for an aftermarket cat to be welded and fitted to the exact size. Does anyone have any good suggestions to have the obx header welded to a cat for a good size before I go to take off the stock header for install?

All of this stuff is covered in the OBX Header Dyno Results thread....

But FWIW, you can get an aftermarket cat, take it down to the shop, and have it welded in as well. Make sure that you have the cat placed so that the 02 sensor "fits", and you'll need a 2 bolt flange to weld onto the end of the aftermarket cat.

For lots and lots and lots of details, wade through the original OBX thread....

There are tons of photos there as well. I took some printouts to the shop that did my work....
