I understand that some changes took place to the Getrag 6 speed in the MCS, I have the early version (Sep 03 build MCS). In researching the options, I don't see many that appear to be reasonably priced.

I understand that I can get a re-manufactured, later model Getrag ($3K) which gets a new ring & pinion and 1st & 2nd gears, maybe some actual ratios would help explain my questions:

1st 4.15 * 2.75 = 11.43
2nd 2.61 * 2.75 = 7.18
3rd 1.33 * 4.05 = 5.40
4th 1.09 * 4.05 = 4.41
5th 1.33 * 2.75 = 3.66
6th 1.09 * 2.75 = 2.99

Jul 04 Getrag MCS 6 speed
1st 4.46 * 2.87 = 12.79
2nd 2.71 * 2.87 = 7.79
3rd 1.33 * 4.24 = 5.65
4th 1.09 * 4.24 = 4.62
5th 1.33 * 2.87 = 3.83
6th 1.09 * 2.87 = 3.13

MiniSport in the UK appears to be the only supplier offering an alternate ring & pinion kit (3.16 & 5.00) but it is very pricey (846.84 english pounds, Jun 05).

Many companies offer alternate ratios for the entire gearbox, but all cost thousands of dollars, more than I am willing to spend, if I do this I want it to be low buck.

It appears to me, the most bang for my buck is an upgrade of only the 1st & 2nd gear ratios (from the newer style gearbox). I also assume the Getrag Focus SVT box may be a source of parts to accomplish this (if new parts are not available).

Anyone have insight into the Getrag re-manufacturer?

How about a Getrag service manual to get the gear installation clearances adjusted correctly in the gearbox?
