Outside Temp effect on engine

Over the last several months I been keeping track of outside temp at night and the effect it has on the car. Tonight the outside temp was reading 59 degrees according the OBC and my car was quick........Now thats what I'm talking about! The car would pull strong in every gear. I just wish it would run like this all the time.

What if anything would keep the air that cool all the time? Aquamist? Larger intercooler?

What you are experiencing is the effect of the cooler air on the intercooler.

All of the list. The simplest to add would be a larger intercooler. The next step up in complexity and bang for the buck would be a front-mounted intercooler. Aquamist would require replenishment of the water; more frequently on hot days.... Personally, the best compromise between better cooling and hassle would seem to be the front-mounted intercooler.

As some know/remember, I did some data-logging with the stock and larger ICs (GRS), and also with the stock hood scoop and a larger one (M7). The larger IC did not yield cooler temps (IATs). I replicated runs on the same stretch of road, driver input, and ambient temps... The larger scoop did indeed make for a noteworthy delta of about 10 degrees, F.

Thats interesting.......the larger hoodscoop had more of an effect than the intercooler. Anyone else with the M7 scoop want to chime in?

Or, for more of a minimalist, low-cost approach...

59 degrees! I can only "dream".

It's more like 75 degrees tonight for me.

Maybe on a really cold cold day in February I can hope for 59 degrees but it's not going to happen anytime soon for me.

Once in a long while it can get down to the mid 60s in December but the last few years it's been stuck in the 70s.

Yes, cold weather is good for the MCS and performance. About 50-60 is about the right coldness without being "too cool". Fall and spring are great seasons to go out for a drive.

I've been doing my share of those also . I too have done some work on how the bottom of the scoop mates-up to the lower diverter, that bridges over to the top of the IC. I also added a diverter bar to the GRS IC to direct the ambient air to front part of the IC. I coated the open cell foam to better seal it so air won't escape through it. I'm in the process of doing a couple more things to refine the set-up, and I believe they will all make a positive difference. And without a doubt, the larger M7 scoop made a difference in lowering IATs, on both the stock and GRS ICs...

50-60? So long as there is no lingering ice on the roads, 40's is very nice!
