B&M or Alta Shorter Shifter???

I am looking for a shorter shifter for my 05 MCS. I narrowed down to B&M and Alta. really having a hard time deciding which one to buy. Since B&M has been making shifter for a long time, I would assume they provide shorter shifter with better quilaty. However, Alta is claiming that its' SS is making an 40-45% reduction 4 the shifting travel compared to 30% shifting travel of a B&M SS.
Anyone lucky to be the owner of the both SS, please share ur experience, or if u have some solid testing result of these tow SS, please dont hesitate to share it. Thx .

I have the B&M. It is perfect to me. I doubt many people will have had both. I tried the alta about 6 months before i got mine, it was about the same feel if i remember correctly. Doesnt the alta have a much lower position than stock? Mine is about the same, maybe a little lower.

Also, if you're into the B&M one, the Pilo one is worth checking out. Same deal, save about 50 bucks.

Has anyone really compared those SS or done a research on those SS. please help me on that. Thx

Cant comment on the B&M other than the comments I have heard of it being a top notch shifter, I have the Alta myself and I love it, it totally transforms the driving experience. Its my favorite mod I have done to the car.

Doubt you would be unhappy with either

John.

I've had the B&M on for about a month. It's great. I like the fact that it fits entirely inside the shifter box, so you can still use the dust cover.
It took a little getting used to, I never owned a car with an SS before. I'm happy with it.

Mine is different. I have one from a 05 and it came with a dust cover. It is a big metal box that extends further than the stock one. The designed was changed from mid 04 and on.

I have an 04 with the B&M short shift kit. Mine uses the new style that came with the metal dust cover. All was great until I installed a Miltek exhaust. The Miltek has a very large center pipe resonator. The combination of the large resonator and metal dust cover caused the exhaust to rub on the heat shield causing a LOUD vibration so I had to remove the dust cover. Even then I still had clearance issues. I had to fab up some spacers to put between the center exhaust mounting plate and the frame. This has taken care of the issue. I needed about ½ inch of clearance even without the metal dust cover. Needless to say I’m not going to use the dust cover which is a shame because it is a nice feature of the B&M kit. Don’t know if the Alta short shift kit would have similar issues but if your thinking of installing a Miltek exhaust with a short shift kit you may have some fitment issues that will need to be addressed.

I had the same problem as SCMCS. Ended up putting some rubber up there and it stopped it. I tried the spacer thing and it didnt work for me.

Hummmm your the only other person I have heard of who said they had this issue

Maybe the combination of a B&M and Miltek (or other cat back with a large resonator) is not to common????

Well, the guy that i got it from, i payed $90 for it, said that it didnt fit right on his 05. He had the miltek. I dont have a miltek, i have a Megan. I guess the resonator design is similar.

Milltek/Megan

the resonator is about the same in size so u will have an issue w/the dust cover on 05's....

good price though jus get an alta and sell the B&m.
the B&M has a better design though plus the solid couplers u will not get w/the Alta piece!!

Must be similar. Now that I have got the rubbing problem solved I would say that having both the B&M and Miltek is defiantly worth the fitment issues. Smooth shifting and great sounds from the Miltek.

ALTA ss here for my 05 MCS. Absolutely love it. Many members of the AtlantaMINIS have it and are satisfied.

u know on that Alta bit u can adjust it all the way down to 45% but in turn it feels much harder to put the gear in place, but i cured that w/a heavier ****. & i've been told that if u have a Milltek or similar exhaust u will not have the room to lower that shifter all the way down... i myself have tryed this and now run a non resonated Milltek and its all good had a 'playmini' and it did get in the way...

It does not matter what exhaust you have, none of them can or will come in contact with any shifter, ... UNLESS one has removed the heat shield and for some reason raised the exhaust system which really can not be done.

The best system available is the Alta at lowest setting (as low as you can go before hitting the heat shield) and my shift lever extension.

Mine sure did. Let me clarify that it didn't come in contact with the shifter. It did contact the heat shield, which was a bit lower because of the B&M short shifter and it's dust cover. Even after I removed the dust cover and pushed the heat shield back in place as far as it would go with out touching the lowered shifter shaft it still came in contact enough to feel the exhaust moving a bit while driving and you could hear vibration/resonance coming from the exhaust system. But some aluminum spacers like I used in the rear to clear the aero kit rear bumper all is well.
