Drivetrain Mini Cooper RS
Well, there are a couple translations on what an RS is.
After the 550 spyder, Porsche introduced it's 1500cc RS Spyder in 1956, followed by a barrage of sopyders with the designation - RSK, RS60, and RS61 with several different motor combinations. Then in 1973, Porsche introduced the "Ducktail" Carrera RS, which most people are familiar with. This iteration is known as "Rennsport", or race.

Then there is the American version of RS for the Camaro starting in 1967. This iteration is known as "Rally Sport".

Now we come to the MINI. The "S" is for Special or Sport, depending on whether you are listening to John Cooper or Sir Alec Issogonis. I don't know what that would make the RS - RennSpecial? RallySpecial? RennSport? RallySport?

Could this be the new RS?

Well, maybe - but I doubt it. This is a highly modified MINI by team Qvick of Belgium - it has a 330HP M3 6-cylinder engine stuffed into it and has been modified for rear wheel drive.
This is the best link I could find on the car.
....But, boy wouldn't that be SWEEEEEET!!!! I have to admit that 330HP would actually scare me.

>>The RS is a fantasy...
My dealer, who hasn't let me down yet, announced at a large MINI meeting (50+ MINIs and around 100 people there) that the RS *WILL* be comming soon. The way she described it was that it would, through intake exhaust and such be boosted to above 200 hp. She also said that there is the possibility of RS only colors for the limited production RS.

I'd trade in my MCS in a minute for one...but I'm not holding my breath.

All the dealerships I've spoken too have had no clue....
It's just a badge/hp upgrade if anything.... I doubt it will not be an all wheel drive...
Let's start predicting MSRP's.....
I'll Say it starts, STARTS, at $26k

It will definitely not go as high as $29k, as from what I've heard from various sources, is that BMW is looking to put the new 1 series 4 banger in there, to get 220-240bwhp. They wouldn't want another car from the same manufacturing parent company to compete with itself.

My guess would be that BMW will do with MINI as they have done with their BMW automobile line for years. Keep introducing new variations but spread them out over time. I know there is a convertible in the works, I’m sure at least non-USA markets will get a diesel, and it sure wouldn’t take much tweaking to get 200+ hp from an S. How about something like the BMW M cars; a high performance division for MINI. I am sure BMW will do something to keep the excitement going; I look forward to years of MINI variations!
I'm wondering if it's even feasable to have a +250hp MCS on the mass market scale. I'm not thinking that the sales are going to be all that, or at least, once winter comes, there will probally be a lot of people downgrading... The MCS already is almost too 'jumpy' for winter driving.. you really have to watch yourself. I'm not saying that they are bad in the snow, but starting from a stop is almost silly, and you have to be carefull not to exceed safe driving limits, something that the MCS already seems to urge the driver to test...

Actually, the rear suspension on MCS is already made like the RWD. All you need is a link, that can go where the exhaust is now, and exhaust can be minimized and run on the side. there you go, 4WD. I heard they are planning on it, that's why the car's design has that in mind.

>>Ya, but were are you going to put the drive shaft? Talk about cramped.., and you'd also have to move the battery box...

RbX,
Do you mean axle? I think he was saying that the drive shaft might go where the exhaust pipes are. :???:
