naked cars run faster...

--Man that article was hilarious! I know this is an old post but man they tore that car apart and got some serious speed out of it. No hood, no doors, part of the trunk missing, no dash. I especially liked the poster's signature:

Speed kills!! Drive a Honda

Brutal sorry to all you owners who have Hondas as backup cars.

60-foot:2.9 sec.
0-60 mph:8.6 sec.

Curb Weight:1,674 lbs
1/4 Mile:14.3 @ 93.2 mph
60-foot:2.6 sec.
0-60 mph:5.8 sec.

The approach seemed to be rather uncomplicated. I think the steps taken could be adapted to the Mini. Maybe you'd like to be the first to take this seriously and try it out. Here is the link:

hey guys, does anyone know the exact weight of the main carpet?

maybe I'll remove it and put on a very slim alcantara trim, but I'd like to know if it has an interesting weight....

I took it out from my ex Saxo and it weighted 9,0kg (20lbs), but it was so much thinner than this...
so I expect something like 13-14kgs (30-31lbs) but I would like to know the exact weight before remove it!

and here's my weight loss plan:
Sparco REV seats: 27kgs
oneball exhaust: 7,7kgs
Kosei K1 TS: 20kgs
main carpet: 13kgs
rear boot trim: 2,5kgs
Braille lightweight battery: 11kgs
ALTA rear camber arms: 3kgs
Brake disc protection plates: 2kgs

with only theese modifies I'm at 86kgs (190lbs) less without removing the rear seats!

I'll keep you informed how works are going on...:impatient

anyone remove their airbags? . . .

all airbags out, with all the sensors and crap included it's around 15 lbs.--of course I barely use the car on the street beyond a run up the road and back, it's pretty much autocross only and has tons (pun intended) of other weight mods done--rear seats out, front seats changed, sunroof replaced with plexiglas, ac gone, straight-through exhaust, small battery (mounted behind pass seat, original box removed), wheels/tires, hollow roll bars, no stereo, yada yada yada. i haven't weighed the car, but there's easily 300+ lbs. gone--and yes, it's definitely light in the rear, not a real problem at autocross speeds, but I wouldn't recommend this set-up for driving at higher speeds as it's not easy to catch the back end--then again at higher speeds, aero aids and tuning would lessen the problem . . . --there's also a "good" side to increased front weight bias--more traction for better acceleration and less understeer, but like everything, it's all a compromise

You're not talking about the dust shields, are you? If so, 2Kg is very optimistic.

I would love to get my wife a carbon bonnet and hood scoop, but I don't think she likes it. Any way to convince her?

Get it, paint it body color (minus stripes) and put it on when she's not looking, and tell her that you got her stripes...

I just took the stock brakes out of the shed to clean them, and the two dust-shields combined don't weigh even one pound.

So far, I've done 16" SSR Comps (-48 lbs), hollow front & rear sway bars (-5 lbs), non-runflats(unknown specific savings, but they're darned light), removed spare-tire and toolkit (-50ish lbs), and Wilwood calipers (-11 lbs).

For AutoX, I run with 3 gallons of fuel (-60ish lbs), no floor-mats (-10ish lbs), no glovebox contents (-3 lbs), and no rear-view mirror (-.5lbs).

There's your 200 lbs, without removing rear seats. Of course, that only works for a Cooper.

It matters for competition, but not for the street. For that matter, wiper-fluid matters for competition.

And let's be real, here: street-racing is seriously poo-pooed on this site, so if we're talking about weight-savings for any practical application, we're necessarily talking about track-days, rallyes, and autocrosses. In these controlled (and controllable) environments, every ounce counts.

Most people won't pull out the A/C for street use (unless they live in a cool climate); most folks aren't going to strip the stereo and remove all of the interior plastic just to commute back and forth to work. There's a fair balance that needs to be struck for the street, and you can only bank on certain weight-reducing methods: acrylic sunroof panels, no spare, random bits of carbon-fibre, etc.

But, yes, I can absolutely list fuel, as it is a competition savings, and is subtracted directly from curb weight.

Pictures? I'm curious to see how you shoe-horned the intercooler under the bonnet.
