MCS vs. Honda SiR-t or in the US Si-t?

I have a BMP intake, 15% pulley, complete ignition system upgrade including plugs and a One-Ball exhaust.
My contender on the other hand has a Turbo SiR or Si in the states running on 6 Psi safely. His car is FAST compared to a stock SiR. I think he dyno'd it at 206 WHP and 160 or 170 ft. lbs.
We will be taking it to the Track this weekend, and I would like your opinions on whether or not I should put money on it

Let me know what you think.

I wouldn't. He's got more power, better gearing, and equal or less weight.

Unless you are talking about a very tight track, I think he's gonna smoke ya.

I don't think that will have anything to do with the outcome:smile:

I was referring to driving in a straight line. (i have to go off the track to do so)

I'll say it again. Camel can beat him.

You are right, he has better hp, maybe better gearing. But gears and hp dont win a race on their own. And by saying that a turboed Civic Type-R will smoke an S just because of those 2 things, you guys need a course in MINI Faith 101. (And a little track experience would help)

Don't give me the "it depends on the driver line" - because that's what experience implies. Obviously it matters, but car comparisons should always assume equal drivers.

BTW, I'm assuming he's referring to the drag strip. I could be wrong, but every time I've heard someone say "take it to the track" (and especially with bets involved), that's what they're referring to. If I'm correct in this assumption, I definitely stand by my original prediction.

I would be shifting even more than I am now if I had an 05 tranny

No thank you

in fact I wish the gearing was even taller

Jeff I never implied driver experience for my race. I was implying suspension, brakes, weight, weight distribution, intimidation factor, stuff like that. (Including the driver is whole new ball game).

And if someone is referring to a drag strip when they have 2 small engined, small hatch, front wheel drive cars and say "lets take it to da track", then they're driving the wrong car.

Exactly. The mini always has been a cornering car. That is it's strong point.

MINI cant beat a Ferrari on the track??? It's already been done.

Life must be very easy for people that say "that cant be done", "this cant be done", when all they have to do is get off their ****... and just do it.

It's called "The people who make things happen" category.

That reminds me of the Monte Carlo Rally win that the mini made. Nobody thought it was possible, except for some unknown by the name of John Cooper :P

I think it will depend alot on who's the better driver on the track & factoring in the other mods the civic has such as suspension. If it's modded also, it will be leaning alot towards the civic as for the car alone.

btw what year is it? the newest civic siR will be a killer opponent - from the sounds of it - it seems like an older model - i hope

then again - the new carrera GT is a ***** to drive to the limit - while the SLR is a walk in the park - making any idiot look good.

lets hope the mini makes it as the equalizer in handling.

Sorry not with the stock suspension.. if it had upgrades that made it stick to the ground then YES!!

Those civics stick to the road in stock trim.. but suck out of corners to 170km/h. From personal experience ofcourse:smile:

What I heard is that the civic is very easy to drive around corners... I wouldn't take anyone's word for it unless I tried it out first.

Well he doesnt have the Newest version SiR, he has a 2000, and it has full coil over suspension that I am pretty sure is just set up for street driving. And I think he is too brain-dead to figure out how to tune it for track... haha..

What year is your Mini? If it's an 05 you have a a very good chance with your current mods - the shorter 3rd, 4th, and,5th gears will help.

When you say his car is an SiR, do you mean the double over cam B16? I have one sitting outside. One thing to consider, is the gearing is tuned for a naturally aspirated, high rpm hp car. This can hurt his acceleration thru a road course - he may be shifting an awful lot - not geared for a turbo. Point underscored by El's comment! You have no idea how peaky his hp is; improper gearing, especially gear that is too short, can really hurt a turbo's performance. So, what his car produces on a dyno means nothing...don't be afraid. At 160 naturally aspirated hp at 8,000, the SiR or Si still isn't a barn stormer. It takes a lot of winding time to get to 8,000rpm, and the peak hp is available for a fraction of a second.

If you have an 05 with the above mods, your Mini probably makes better torque, AND, will probably make better use of that torque. Even though your hp is somewhat less, it takes roughly 100bhp to reduce acceleration to 60mph by one second. His hp is only about 30hp +/- more. Power band comes into play too; the DOHC B16 produces its naturally aspirated max hp at 8,000rpm +/- and max torque of 111 lb/ft at, I can't remember, 7,000rpms. Adding a SC to this can work well...I've seen one US Si with a Jackson SC hit the 100mph mark by the 1/4 mile. A turbo mated to this motor can yield lots of power too, but turbo lag has been a real problem with some of the applications I've experienced.

On a road course I would give the edge to your Mini; the SiR's veeeery slow steering gear and very poor steering feel make it a very annoying accomplice on a track. If it is setup well, however, that car can handle very very well. Mine had lots of grip and incredible balance for a front driver. A steering gear slower than my wife's mini van is a real turn-off! Just dumb!

Go for it! Hit it hard and don't look back - really!
