Simplest and cheapest performance boost for mechanically impaired newbie

What are the simplest and cheapest performance boosts for a mechanically impaired newbie to a 2004 MC-S. I'm not ready to install pullies yet or belly up to bar with several g's for the JCW upgrades. Anything else easy to do and reasonably priced? I'm already going to 16 inch from 17 inch tires for a little better straight line performance. Will be sticking nonrunflats on the wheels per the suggestion of my kidney specialist (just kidding).

If you like to try this one will cost you less than $20 and It does really make you feel the boost sooner and stronger.

How about the MTH software? It's definately my first planned mod based on the reviews of those in my local club. It's around $80 (based on exchange rate) if you can find someone with the cable hookup already.

You want to get your feet wet slow, before you know it you will be swimming in mods. The more you do the more you want. Good luck!
