oil catch can

If a stock S is driven for say 100,000 fairly aggressive miles without a catch can, what kind of power loss, if any, might I expect over time? Will drivability suffer?

Ciao,

Michael

Hi Michael. I did some research on this a while ago, and I couldn't find any data (improved hp) for the MINI, nor other cars. The assertion is that it makes the IC more efficient, and with that, hp is "gained," ie, not lost... Makes sense to me. It is also said to reduce emissions...

I can say that after only 10k miles, I had some sludge in my IC and rubber boots. I think it's a good idea...

I have the M7 can waiting to get installed... It's pending his AGS, or Air Gain System...

I just got an M7 oil-catch can myself. I am going to install it this weekend.

Okay. I've got almost 13K on the car now. I better get on it. Thanks a bunch guys.

In a related story; the IC has an oily residue on the outside of the cooling fins. This staining is more or less isolated to where most of the air enters the IC area. I'm assuming something like Fast Orange is okay to spray on the IC and then very lightly wash off???

Michael, I try not use things that leave a residue behind, especially in "hot" areas. Although, I think you would be fine using that orange cleaner...

If you can't get it off with some water and an old toothbrush, I'd shoot some brake cleaner on it instead. I'm going to use that (Berryman') when I clean-out my IC prior to installing the occ...

Tony, I originally wrote brake cleaner...thought it might be to strong. Doesn't leave a residue though. I've got a shoe box full of old tooth brushes.

Thanks again.

Cool. That or even acetone... They will evaporate, making clean-up fairly easy. I have a couple small projects that I'm going to work on now

The TB's cleaners I've seen also leave no residue. Read the label to make sure. If there's some residue, it's not the end of the world in this case (cleaning the outside of the IC). You just don't want crude buliding-up... I'm in the process of making an IC sprayer, and it will pump distilled water over it, as opposed to the elements found in tap water. Heck, I'm guessing that I can use my well's water... very low on metals, and clean...
