Let’s talk hoses and plastic

Forgive me if there is another thread just like this one, please share a link too.

For the R56/57 N18 engine… has anyone compiled a list if the must-have upgrades for OEM hoses (silicon) and OEM plastic parts (replacing with metal or much stronger plastic design/construction?

im pulling my whole engine to begin work on a
rebuild. Best time to install the best upgrades out there based on how the community has had success.

I’ve seen the DT cryo timing chain and ECS water pipe. I’ve seen coolant reservoir upgrades with mixed results…

thanks in advance:-)

I have done mine with aftermarket version. Some don't include the extra protective covers, most are the same. Also you might have to get the clamps on their own. Thats about the only difference. So just watch out for that. I have done the silicone and it works great, one and done. I would get out metal water pipe and timing chain kit. The coolant reservoir most just replace the whole unit with new and that connection hose on the bottom of it as they tend to crack and leak at the seal.

Hope that helps.

yes this helps a ton thank you. Can you put together a simple list of must have aftermarket upgrades to replace OEM hoses and plastic parts? I’m talking about the ones tried and true proven to be upgrades over OEM. Significantly better and proven in the field. N18 R57.

how do you feel about your timing chain kit against Detroit Tuned cryo kit? And I’m probably person 9,626 to ask… why hasn’t anyone replaced the plastic guides with metal?
