ECU Tuning - are these numbers real?

So I followed the link from another thread to an article in European Car magazine on their Project Street S Mini and read about a 20 horsepower and 17 lb./ft. gain from custom ECU tuning from a company called Evosport. These are the kind of numbers that I have been dreaming of. Is this real and/or accurate? If so, why do none of the products discussed so frequently on this site regarding ECU/chip tuning come anywhere close to these numbers?

If it was a stock MCS, then I'd believe it. Otherwise, probably not.

It's the law of diminishing returns..

I have the MTH software in my virtually stock MCS.. and I feel a huge difference from the stock software..

I have put the same software(corrected for the installed mods) in seriously modded MCS' and dont feel the same difference comparitivley.. (sp)

It seems the more hardware mods done to a car, the less the software will add in terms of HP and torque.

as most of the mods done here are on the hardware side, the software really ends up just tying up the "loose" ends..

IMO

My MCS pulls a lot stronger (and smoother) with MTH software. I haven't seen any dyno yet but I can really feel the gain with MTH loaded...

That wasnt the same article that had the mini with 160+ hp to the REAR wheels was it. Everything you see in print is not necessarily the truth. If those numbers were anywhere near correct it would be the talk of the Mini community.

No it wasn' the same article. The MCS they used for testing was having some problems before modding. it was dumping fuel and wasn' running correctly. read the article again. that is probably why they saw such a change. I brought this topic up twice already. I was interested in how they leaned out the air/fuel mixture and if that was being done with the GIAC. I was told that it didnt make more hp by itself or something i forget. I'll try a search for yah
