The ECU flash will simply allow the fuel curve to be more responsive at higher RPM with the added fuel and air the air intake flap offers when open. Dont expect any huge gains but more so a smoother top end.

This was always a drawback going with aftermarket injectors since the mpg would skyrocket on the MCS's computer. I know the injectors aren't a lot larger, so the impact would be small regardless.

I do have the '05 JCW on my car, and the complaint in the past was that the JCW ran pig rich. At this point, after 1,000 miles my tips are clean as can be. On my stock '03 MCS the tips were always black within a few hundred miles. Does the fact the JCW tips are cleaner have any indication of the a/f ratio?
When my kit was installed, the mpg in the computer read 21.7 the minute I turned on the car. (this happened both times;if you recall those service folks forgot to install the 05 portion of the kit) The mileage is improving every day. I'm just over 25mpg now - 50/50 highway/city. Highway speeds in the 75-85 mph range. I have been told that the reason the pre 05 kits were a bit sluggish in mid-range was/is infact due to very rich conditions. This made feathering the throttle in mid-range very difficult, a definate flat spot. the 05 upgrade has cured this condition in my car. I drove the car for amonth before the 05 upgrade was installed. My seat of the pants impression of the 05 upgrade was initially not great; I thought the car was a tad less punchy. In fact, the upgrade has made the car smoother thru out the entire power band, eliminating any spikes. The car definately moves if you keep your foot in it. At 80mph, no need to down shift for a brisk acceleration, 6th gear works just fine.

Meb - Do you happen to know if the JCW kit ECU upgrade also upgrades the Computer's mpg readings? B/c I know without a JCW upgrade, my JCW-sized injectors fool the computer into thinking less gas is being consumed. So I see higher computer mpg readings than I should.

I do not know for sure. My intellect tells me that BMW/Mini would have had to account for the different pulse rates and well as psi to enable the computer to show accurate mpg. They have a higher orders to answer to - EPA. But, I will cross check the computer reading with my next tank full. The only problem with this is the computer reads mpg history from the get-go. So, although I may get a great next mpg reading, it will be tempered or averged into my historical mileage...which was also, as stated above, reset to 21.7 mpg(???) after the upgrade. Interestingly, this default, if it can be called that, was also the same after the first portion of the JCW install - no computer re-flash. So I don't know why the history was destroyed in the process. And, the fuel injectors are part of the pre 05 kits.

Very interesting subject...how exactly do the 380cc JCW injectors work? In other words, how do they differ in operation to other aftermarket 380cc injectors? I throw this out to all because BMW/Mini should have accounted for any differences in injector operation if they hoped to retain accurate computer mpg readings. Dunno. I'm over my head here greatgro. Anyone???

I don't understand. When you fill-up, why don't you reset your computer's mpg to zero???

I do. But your question was with regard to the computer. The only way I can verify the accuaracy of the computer is by comparing my actuals with historical mpg in the computer. If I were getting 25 mpg for example, and the improvment in the computer's history were much better, then I would say I have a problem similar to yours. I have not bothered at this point to follow my mpg closely. I still fill up with more or less the same frequency. If I understand your question greatgro, and I may not...

330cc I believe. So the JCW or GIAC ones have 15.2% greater flow.

Greatgro, I think I understand the confusion; I have the Chrono package. This package includes a computer that tracks historical and ral-time mpg, real time number of miles that remain before a fill up is required, outside temp. F and time. Sorry about that.

That's what I thought until I got out the owners manual and found out that the OBC's average MPG can be reset at any time. As a matter of fact, on vehicles with an OBC, there are three things that can be reset independently -- 1) trip odometer 2) average speed 3) average fuel consumption.

Well don't I feel sheepish. I had better read up on that computer thing soon!
Thanks for the heads up muy mini. The trip odometer is a no brainer...I wonder if when reseting the trip, all else is re-set???

Muy Mini, you are indeed correct and thank you. Now I can verify the accuracy of the on-board against the trip quite easily. Simple, just hold the mode button down for a longer period of time and the selected display is re-set...for anyone else with their head in a dark place. I've been called the absent minded professor by wife family and friends. No, really!

Just an update, checked with the local dealer and the JCW injectors alone are $125 each, so the upgrade is like buring the injectors and getting the airbox for $25

I'm getting all ready for my upcoming trip to helix. Today was christmas again and UPS dropped off my jcw injectors and airbox. I've decided to go with the 19% pulley and GIAC. Looking forward to fat torque & smooth running. Thanx for the info and help here.

So, when you install these two components, will you have the entire JCW kit installed? If so, I would really like to read about your results - dyno?

Meb, no I won't have a complete jcw engine kit. I've been running a 15% pulley, alta intake, milltek catback and mth software for fun. I also have a wheel & tire combo that weights in at 36 pounds, for a 19 pound per corner weight reduccion. It all adds up, I like my car. I'm upgrading the mth software and I'm hoping it'll be better than mth's. I'm not satisfied with the mth sofware, it's a bit edgie. I had been a giac holdout but mth came along at the right price, thanx DKSTONE for all the help you provided me with on that project. Now giac has arrived with a solid product, the tunners have their bigger injectors to go nicely with the 19% pulley. The planets all line up .
My 15% pulley has served well for 32,000 miles, its time to go stage two.
Thanx BMW for making those injectors and that jcw airbox a good deal.
Yeeeha.
