Drivetrain Finally Internals!

Again, Like I said in my reply, drive it like a Challenge car and you will break stuff.
driving it "barely" and driving it hard = beating on a car. You can justify and define it in your head any way you like.

How do you drive a tuned car? No occasional pulls? No spirited runs around some round abouts? This F56 was never once tracked.

I completely get what you're saying, but I don't think anyone does performance modifications to a car to then drive it slow. "Beating" and "Smashing" and "Driving Hard" are words with differing definitions depending on the person using it. I think there is a certain expectation of performance with any car. It shouldn't explode when you press the gas pedal down a little further than usual. Of course, my humble opinion.

Maybe I’m driving a tuned car wrong this whole time. My Manic Stage 3 was used and abused. 22.1psi. Hit 160mph in it 3 times, launched it, redlined it, etc. 60k miles. I guess I was spoiled with that car.
Never treated my F56 even close to this and the F56 gets the blown motor. How hilarious.
I should just go back to the N18. Miss the confidence of driving that car. I’m just worried driving this F56 all the time.

Im pretty happy back at the JB4 for now. 15psi is much better than stock and feels very safe. And knock sensors are going through the factory set safety parameters.
Who knows if the tuner is messing with knock sensor thresholds, etc. We just have to trust them since tuners never disclose any information to the public.

I am no tuner but I just don’t know what’s in the tuners mind when the stock car puts 8-10ish psi. Then tune them for around 20psi. Basically, doubling the psi originally.

Just happy to be pooting along with my wimpy 3psi extra boost from my $250 Dinan Sport Tuner. The mechanics at my MINI dealer took my car for an "extended" test drive with the Dinan installed when I took the car in for it's 10K service. They liked the Dinan a lot and gave me no cautions or warnings. But I'm a geezer and get my thrills watching my automatic side mirrors fold and unfold, so what do I know anymore.
Truly sorry to hear about blown engines in newer cars. Cautionary tale for all of us. Let's leave it at that, shall we?

Stock car with JCW tune vs my Chevy Bolt daily = Bolt several car lengths ahead of mini from both standstill and a 40 roll.

I paid to have BMW put a tune on my 1351. Did have more muffler burbles but the power could have been like VW and the diesel emissions,
On this particular issue, usually when a piston or rod goes, it is not from a single or an "at the moment condition" but rather the culmination from over stressing the particular part.

Bolt? Interesting. I had a NM on mine, threw codes and connections had a problem. JCW Tune, on mine, is better than boxes IMO-no experience with AM tunes-no opinion. Being in SD, CA, have you ever considered the Mini Driving School in Thermal. They use stock JCWs and one learns some pretty amazing things about the MINI and what it can and does do. There is a Justa here in my area that is tracked and beats everybody due to weight/power ratio.

So if I wanted to upgrade my F56 Cooper S and get the aftermarket ECU tune to get more power, would it be better to go with JCW's lower compression (10.2:1) pistons and crank up the boost some more or use the stock spec compression pistons (11:1) and slightly lower boost? Will they have upgraded rods too? How strong are the stock rods?
And also, they are only mentioning the B48 S and JCW, are the pistons for B46 engine code the same?

Only issue was 2 shattered diverter valves. Since they were stock and made out of thin plastic and my Intercooler pipe blew off on the track. Likely because I wasn’t using upgraded clamps.
I didnt even know how to drive the car since I was still a beginner and a young kid. I would do 6th Gear pulls on freeway. Lots of load. Never any low speed pre ignition. Launch the car all the time. Smashed the crap out of that car every single day. Never blew the motor.
This F56. 4th Gear, 3k RPM, foot down. Hole through the block and broken piston.
I probably did this thousands of times on my N18 with 22.4psi on a big turbo.
Maybe i I need Manic to tune my car again. Nick at Manic spent the entire day tuning my R56 when he flew out to CA for Manic beta testing.

Found this thread on the supertech engine internals, turns out it quickly becomes an issue-oriented rant against tunes without the modified internals. Can we steer the topic back a little bit and see who's already tried these supertech internals already? Interested because I've just did a full tear down on a '15 B46 Cooper S and on my way of putting it back together, I aim to upgrade the internals along the way. Can someone share some insight on these supertech internals. I've been looking around everywhere, there aren't much piston options for our B46/B48 engines that I can find. Any help is appreciated.

Quite a few people have them. A few of my friend have them put in as well. At least 5 including me 6 people who have blown their jcw engine with a stage two tune. All piston 2 for some reason.
So far so good with the supertech piston and rods. I am on my 2nd engine( stock internal) debating if I should go with internal as well to prevent blown engine. Btw one of my friend blown his engine twice on track.

I went with Supertech Cooper S pistons on my JCW, also got the rods and Kingracing bearings. Can running strong and noticeable less turbo lag due the higher compression and little bigger bore , adding water/meth next month, gas in my country literally sucks.
Next is ported head(probably from Jan RMW, when he make it + Pure turbo) but unsure if my stock auto box will handle it :(

Mods and Reliability
Hi friends, thought I would jump in on the discussion concerning reliability with modded F56’s. I have a 2017 JCW that is approaching 50k with lots of mods and I have had very good luck with it. For the past 30k miles I have had a Dinan Elite, methanol injection, two different exhausts, and a K&N intake. I took it to seven track days at my local track in Topeka and set competitive times. There has not been a day I’ve driven the car that I haven’t floored it, and it has never skipped a beat. I also make sure to always run 93 octane and at the track I used their big bad 100 octane gogojuice. This setup currently makes about 285hp and torque to the wheels.
