Drivetrain FREE Horsepower from a roll of duct tape
>>That's the nice thing about Darksilver, standard duct tape is a great match.

i have a bright blue duct tape that would go very well with electric blue minis..

I think it is bogus to be honest. I do have it on my car though, as it is practically free. What this came out of was some dyno testing. The flow is so restrictive when doing closed bonnet dyno testing, that when taping the area off, it provided slightly more air - enough to boost the horsepower slightly. The dyno is such a tricky tool that any small change may make a deceiving and false gain. That's probably what we have here.
The downside is that the cabin is a little stuffy with the environmental system turned off all together. As long as you have the fan blowing, it doesn't seem to matter one way or the other.
Hope that helps!

Could you elaborate on this? I was driving around with my partner the other day and he was complaining about warm air coming out of the vents when nothing was on. So this is the cause??
R
R - do you have the ACC?
I don't know for sure if it is the same with the manual AC controls, but there have been numerous discussions regarding the warm air that comes out of the vents when the ACC is supposedly off. The solution is supposed to be to turn down the temp control before turning the system off. It might work similarly with the standard controls also.
I'd at least try this before ripping out the duct tape - just to see.

Yeah, try turning it all the way down to "LO" and the heat should go away. Works for me. (I have the ACC)

Is this tongue-in-cheek? The two runs look identical save for the normal variance you see between any two dyno runs.
I actually tried it for grins when the report first came out. Only thing that I noticed was that when I took the tape back off, water came out. I don't think I'd leave it on there lest it cause rust!
Besides, if you really want to add power cheaply, stickers are definitely the way to go.

I think friedduck may be on to something. Maybe the standard duct tape is limiting the full potential of this mod. Has anyone put a manufacturers sticker and put over the holes instead of using duct tape? That may increase hp even more. If it does then Randy could start selling us Mini-Motorsport stickers.

I'm afraid ya'll are not seeing the trees for the forest. The ULTIMATE performance modification is the placement of perfomance stickers over the holes!!!!! A dyno test of the benefits of, perhaps, the required NOS sticker, a MOMO decal, and perhaps a Type-R emblem for good measure is forthcoming. This will undoubtedly create the baddest MCS around!!!

Just finished my Duck Tape mod, but didn't seem to get the same results the rest of you got. Did I do it wrong?
