Drivetrain Post Works kit upgrade feedback:
Post Works kit upgrade feedback:
Sorry to dilute the existing thread but who among us has had the Works upgrade installed? Who is waiting? Who has one on order?
-Were you/are you running a stock intake before the Works upgrade? Throttle body?
-Mileage: w/ the bigger injectors what is the expected fuel consumption?
-Is there a vacuum hose that activates the electronic "flap"? (at 45OO rpm ?)
-Is the Works intake louder than stock? Compared to an AM unit?
-What is the filter element exactely (paper cone?) Who makes it?
-Chance the top of the JCW intake box rub an aftermarket tower bar/front strut brace? (Mine is Dinan.)
-Install: no quickie I assume (2.5-3 hrs?)
Thanks for the feedback

marksmith,
Not trying to be negative, but try doing some searches on www.motoringfile.com and www.mini2.com. Both sites have a lot of information on the new JCW kit, including this site. Here is some answers though:
-Mileage will probably be the same unless you floor it a lot. WOT will cause a slightly worse fuel mileage. The injectors are only 10% larger so it won't be dramatic.
-The electronic flap is operated by a motor that senses the rpm based on a an electrical sensor.
-It is louder than stock. Not much more below 4500rpm, but a lot more above 4500 rpm.
-It is a cone filter in a semi-oval shape, at a 45 degree angle.
-About 2 hours for the install.

Got mine today and I had driven it just for 30 miles, so I won't have a lot of comments yet ! Previously I just had JCW with MINI Mania/K&N CAI.
When I drove the car out from the dealer's lot, I feel the different already, the car pulls stronger in every gear.... Went on the freeway and got a chance to rev it above 4500 rpm, .......wow!!!! the tacho needle was almost looked like jump to 6500 rpm.
The sound of the intake is not as loud as the K&N, specially the high pitch sound, you almost can't hear it and the exhaust makes more brubbling sound.
The whole airbox (upper and bottom part) has been replaced, as well as the panel behind the box.
I would not say this upgrade kit make the car drastically faster, but I could say my car now is 'smoothly' faster.
Cheers !
